Most 0961 blue cards ceased working a couple of weeks ago, although last time I looked at the encryption stream details on my dreambox - about a week ago - 0961 was still being transmitted. The new encryption stream (0963) has been running for months.

i was saying if the 0961 card has completely gone off everywhere now, is it just a matter of time that sky may have something up there sleeve that they are about to unleash it on us, as everyone seemed to be under the impression this was going to happen once all 0961 cards were switched off.

Well, with everything said, and not being one for speculation, I remain optimistic based on the fact that everything implemented by Sly IT has so far been overcome in a matter of days. Only time will tell.

I like your way of thinking b16mcc, remain optimistic!! I do find it weird though why they have only been changing things with IT and not the UK or Germany

I think Germany is a special case as they would have to replace STBs as well - I might be wrong on this, but they bought Premiere which dont use Sly boxes. They have a further problem as it seems the EU might force broadcasters to not restrict customers to certain STBs - apparently this legislation is in process.
I think Italy is the testbed for the new encryption. Also I think there are still too many very old Sly boxes out there in the UK, that might need replacing otherwise decryption would fail.

Hi all, I was certain that the counter measures applied in IT would follow in the UK. To great surprise, it hasn't happened (at least not yet). In IT they believe that the measures adopted are strictly internal politics. For sure the new terrestrial providers are creating worries for S*y and many believe, that at the heart of all this is in fact an economic war between the TV providers. It is strange, with at least 2 confirmed phases of the predicted 3 already implemented in IT, that it hasn't reached us yet. Time will tell...

I'm still running a 0961 in a rarely used box out of curiousity, but for some weeks now decryption of Sky3 and five has stopped - despite the fact that the respective entitlements are valid till late April. Haven't checked the encrypted Ch4 or ITVs though, but I guess the 0961s are only good for ice-scraping now.

For experimentation, I still keep a blue card (for the Central region) that I put in a Sly box the other way round most of the time --- so as it doesn't ket 'killed'. The card is necessary to decrypt Five on the box; the other day, I deliberately powered down the box and when it restarted there was no access to Five; I then put in the card the right way round and Five came back on. Needless to say that the card is back the wrong way round again.

The card isnt decrypting C5 - its regionalising the fta version of C5 onto your box. C5 in most of England south of Manchester (NOT London), Wales & Northern Ireland has been fta for months :)

Yeah, I probably should have been clearer in wording; as might be expected, I am indeed aware of Five being FTA in many instances including for freesat!

Maybe why the big push with the free HD box`s. But not everyone will take advantage.

I think this will happen sooner rather than later. CS is costing Sly a fortune, no doubt. However, I was more than pleasantly surpried to read that Enigma2 is VERY close to being release to run on the Sly HD box. This, when released, will open up a whole new scope for certain......... eh, techniques.

What were you reading? I've often wondered if the official sly box was hackable! Its far beyond my expertise but when you see what clever people have done with the xbox, psp, wii ect then I'm sure there must be something exploitable!

Please can you give more details on this? Do you mean to say that you could use the Sly HD box in the same way you can use a Dreambox or the likes?... I would be very interested in this, given that I have a couple lying around and would love to put them back into use again.
