Hi Liew
No I do not think she is built to do that, but they could reassign to another UK transponder lease e.g Ka 12 or ka 14, thats if these are working ok, as they are all on beam 4. As yet I have not seen this happen.
Another sort of problem I have seen is where the carriers all, seem to oscillate in level, this could be a Ka uplink /water in the path refraction item, but as they all seem to oscillate at the same rate, and some uplinks are in diffrent locations, not sure, but the levels can go up and down some 4/5 dBm

Totally agree with the oscillation level Tony ..
Not seen it so much on the Unrire nag feed ..fairly constant here
around the 10db level.
The Newsnet 'office' feed can vary from unlockable below 6db ..to 10db ...and have seen this often ..sometimes fluctuating this much in a day.
Now to Ocko and Penthouse ..
As a general rule Ocko is stronger and lockable in the evening ..but again this varies ..
recently I have had trouble getting above 3db ..but for me 4.2 db is the threshold.
variance on this one ..
Lowest 2db ...> ....6 db
Usually penthouse is stronger during the day ..and weaker in the evening..
from a low of o.6db to a maximum of 3db..

Daily oscillations from 19.2 for certain ..but a longer wave running over weeks or even months running in the background.
Just my opinion of course ..from observations made.
and please keep in mind I tend to track this one on my modified SL3 ..so pseudo linear ...not trulely linear like the 9000A.

Hi Vipersan
Thanks for your info, what do you pick up at the higher H pol frequency of 18.7xx, it was when I last looked, a Italian Horse Racing Channel FTA, that was very strong, could even pick that up on a standard thresshold receiver -55 dBm (lowest level it can work with), not sure whats there now, as I have not changed my polarity on the K band LNB for a while

Hi Tony ..
I did mention the Unrire Italian horse racing feed already ..
As mentioned I usually get this one around 10db ..and with little variation in the short term ..but over a longer period ..as low as 7.5db ..and as high as 13 db on occasions..

Again using the SL3 which is offset about 6 degrees on my 1.5m dish 'Carl'

Hi Vipersan
Yes I miss read that as a nargra vision encrypted feed, as I never knew it's full channel name,
but you called it up as NAG = horses feed,
As I say that is very strong to me, and will operate even in rain at my location, which all the V feeds are lost.

May be wrong, but can't recall seeing the BT Tower card on these carriers. Reminds me of the much missed one we used to get on 58W or thereabouts.

The BT card featuring the GPO Tower still pops up randomly. I have seen it on 7E recently.

Its certainly one of the best testcards around.

I find the video streaming of Newsnet is invariably smoother using 4T2. For me, VLC takes too long to grab the video, and then there's a lot of pixellation when it finally resolves.

Sussed why streaming Newsnet to VLC from Crazyscan gives me problems.
I just needed a second invocation to VLC. First one - pixellation, second try - clear pic. Assuming a decent signal, which is the case today, 18556V coming in at 13dB on my Norsat, Triax TD88.

Happy New Year to all :)

Since start of the Christmas period Newsnet has been a good level, before that it was was very variable mostly below the thresshold of my 6902 Technomate, which will work down to a good -65 dBm.
Today Newsnet is reading 14 dBm of carrier level
The other ENG feeds on that TP are all over the place as to levels, highest is Boris(Border TV) has been measured at 15 dbm of carrier level.

They are difficult to decode as they are only just over 4 Mhz bandwidth, most receivers are
< 8Mhz, so they may come up on more than one spot frequency, as they can squeeze in up to 10 carriers between Comms carrier at 18.503 xx Ghz(data)and Newsnet 18.556xx Ghz

some at HD mpeg 4, others at SD but still AVC coding

Dish size 1.8 metre offset, our own K band feeed horn. Norsat k band LNB l.o 17.250 Ghz.
all above frequencies are V linear, most other satellite K band downlinks are Circular Pol.

For the record our 1.8 metre dish and front end, works down to 9.5 dBm of carrier level
The ITV companies have 2.4 metre dish, so they can cope with signal carriers down to 8 dBm of carrier level(inc bandwidth limiting of their receivers)

The biggest problem with Ka uplinks and K downlinks, is rain, in all its forms can reduce the signal by half, in dense rain layers, so using DVB-S/S2 for SNG use will never be as reliable as Ku, but Data carriers can be a better option, so IP may be a way forward.

Good info. 18556V still up at 13dB here. No other carriers at present other than that and and the usual ACM/VCM pair at 18561/18567V (apart from Penthouse @ 18366V.)

Feedhorn on my Norsat Band A LNB is from a Triax Saorsat LNB, which I find gives a better match to my dishes than the FD9000.

Great post Tony. Lets hope Newsnet stays up in level, now gives me 24/7 lock

Gone are the days when I could watch all these feeds in 4:2:2 on 24.5 west:D
They never did show much except a standing reporter or the backs of the staff at the ITN centre :(
Good info thread :)

Signals may get better in the UK if they move from 19.2 east to 28.2 east when Astra 2G arrives ?

Possible, unless KA is for broadband services only.

Also depends on coverage required as 1L has a big European footprint with 2 Ka band transponders & 2E,2F & 2 G have smaller footprints mainly covering UK & Central Europe with 11 Ka band transponders between them.

Have the ACM feeds disappeared adjacent the Newsnet feed? haven't seen them recently.

Using the SL3 LNB at the mo.

No, they're there when they're transmitting. I mean a feed like this we used to find a while ago -
