Hi all I discovered this forum while researching the possibility of receiving AD Sports here in Istanbul. After much going around in circles, and following the various migrations of these channels (a number of sites selling ADMC subs still mention Atlantic Bird 4A but that appears to be history) I eventually worked out that I need to get a dish and point it at either Nilesat 201 at 7W or Badr6 at 26E. I then looked at the official footprints and my feeling from them was that the drop off for Badr6 appeared sharper and that I'd need a much bigger dish than I would for Nilesat 201. I used this site to compare the footprints as it lets me zoom in and see my location clearly in relation to the footprint:

So I printed this out and than sketched rough lines in the same shape as the footprint going outwards with the same gap in between as the outer lines on the footprint, decreasing 1dBW at a time, until I reached Istanbul and came up with a ballpark figure of needing a 120cm dish. Now I'm a total beginner to all this, so go easy on me, but am I likely to be in the right ballpark here? Or is the decrease in dBW with distance unlikely to be as uniform as in my imaginary World? Is it a realistic possibility to receive a signal where I am do you think? I've scoured this and many other forums and can't find any examples of people mentioning what dish size they are using for receiving Nilesat 201 in Istanbul or indeed any part of Turkey. So I figured I'd ask here in this thread. Cheers Oliver
