Pangbourne; that's fairly close to Rolf...
Also close to this Haute-Savoyard's home town :) I can't remember Wallingford ever being very windy though, even during the storm of 1987.... What I can remember is the school bus driver alas managing to get us to school despite the bad weather. He was not a popular man :).

Now at four bags!

100kg ought to be enough

I thought you might have mounted the dish on heavy railway sleepers by now etc but that should be enough.

the wind isn't too bad at the moment, I guess it will be worse through the night/ morning.

No room in my garden for Sleepers!

Well, there probably is, but then there'd be no room for owt else.

And the topography would mean I could have stability but see virtually no Satellites, which would be counterproductive :D

I used to live in Goring on Thames when I was quite young, just thought I'd add that useless fact. :D

I'm not expecting really bad winds in the Midlands tonight, but just in case i have left my motorised Gibby at 5e, as the way my house is situated the wind is always channeled down the back of my house by the houses behind us, more or less like a wind tunnel. 5e is directly parallel to the house and the 1m Gibby doesn't have a tendency to move as much in the wind when its parked at 5e.

Should be interesting to see how well my 70cm fibreglass Philips dish handles it though as thats getting the wind more or less across its face at a 45 degree angle.

Since I come from Iceland I am used to windy conditions. Make sure it properly secured to its wall mount (or what you are using). The wind is going to make the dish shake and if this is not properly secured it is going to get loose (the bolts and screws are going to get loose and break when they are stressed by the wind) and take a walk down your nearby area. It is only possible to secure dishes for wind up to 40 m/s (after that everything moves regardless how secure it might be), but no such strong winds are expected. But wind gust might provide up to this strong winds for a short period of time.

I am also getting this storm on Monday here in Denmark (I am already getting part of it now or some other storm). I do not know if my dish is going to stay in correct location (poor set-up that I have at the moment). At least I hope it does not go anywhere in the strong wind expected tomorrow in Denmark, only up to 28 m/s where it is going to be worst.

So how has everyone fared? Not much happened here other than a flooded garage as usual. Both dishes are upright, though I haven't checked alignment.

Apparently the winds kept the other half awake but I didn't hear anything and slept through the whole thing.

The sandbags worked a treat then, think we did come off better than the south, I saw the pictures on bbc site earlier of trees smashed into cars.

I'll leave the extra bags there until April now.

Can't put the old back at too much risk by shifting them around.

No problems for me here in Denmark yet. There is strong wind now. But I rate my dish set-up for at least 30 m/s wind for a short period of time. My current set-up is not good as I want it to be.

The storm came to Denmark and my dish is out of an alignment. Not surprising since I have been having wind up to 50 m/s in the worst gusts. I am waiting for the wind to drop so I can fix my set-up. My dish is on an iron rod in the garden since I am not allowed to install it on the house wall. There is a lot of broken trees now close to me due to this strong wind.

You will have better reception now the trees are broken.
