That is crazy what kind of idiot would have liquid nitrogen near drunk people?!

The undead wouldn't have much of a problem drinking it.

Perhaps Tivu is a zombie.

My advice would be to replace the capacitors with higher working voltage ones, but maintain the same values. I have two Panasonic HDD recording machines where I have done just that.

Interesting reading. I am very surprised that it was allowed to be used in pubs around intoxicated people. I can see it has limited use in the food industry but it is very dangerous stuff. I mean you wouldn't keep hydrochloric acid brick cleaner under the bar.

There is less of a problem with computer users. I bet they are likely to be the few who actually read the data sheets and handle it properly.

Shouldn't be difficult - You can either source the relevant ones piecemeal or just get the Mike Cartwright kit mentioned in the linked Topic. It should then give you another couple of years of service.

C12 2200 microfarad 10v and C23 680 microfarad 25v are the culprits: The former seems to be responsible for boot-loop and the latter "no signal".

But good luck from me also. Less than a tenner ought to give you another couple of years of service.

Thank you! I've ordered from Mike Cartwright, now just have to hone my soldering skills ;)

Like the others have said, if you like the Humax try to fix it. It's pretty easy. Just undo a few Phillips screws and pull out the psu board.

As far as other receivers go, if you want the tv guide (EPG) the only receivers that can do that properly are Sky, Freesat and E2. If you want to watch tv and record you need 2 tuners or more. To have full control over the multiple dishes and have the tv guide the only practical option is E2. Many E2 boxes can handle USB terrestrial tuners as well which means you can mix Freesat and Freeview channels in the same channel list and record from either. Twin tuner E2 boxes compatible with all of the above are Vu+ (Duo, Solo2, Ultimo, & Duo2), or Xtrend (ET9000/9200). Out of them the Duo is the cheapest and is similar in price to a Foxsat PVR, and the sky is the limit when it comes to controlling dishes and having access to many useful plugins.

Thanks for coming up with these suggestions: with a bit of luck, I'll be able to get the Humax working again, otherwise I will check out the twin tuner boxes you mention...

hmm, I'm wondering if my hdci-2000 has the same issue.

I got it out of cupboard today to view the footy on 9e and had some issues.

I didn't think of it at the time but wondered why it was no signal a couple times on screen.

I was going to bin it but wonder if it's worth looking at fixing.

Update on my dead box! It being the weekend, and having a bit of spare time, decided to take a look inside while waiting for the replacement capacitors to arrive. All looked very clean, and no signs of capacitors with bulges or leaky goo… Also didn't look like the photographs I had seen describing how to replace capacitors. Possibly because I've been looking at Humax Foxsat HD, and mine is HDR...

So I trawled around the net a bit, and came up with a suggestion that a firmware update might be a good idea. You can see more here

Followed the instructions, and net result is that the box is currently functioning. Not quite sure why – I never got the promised onscreen message suggesting that the firmware update had been successful – and it may be that I just have an intermittent glitch which is not causing problems at the moment, but will in the future.

Whatever, it looks as though capacitors are not the problem, so I'm passing this on to anyone else for whom it might be relevant.

Ok, didn't realise yours was the HDR.

As you say, different kettle of fish.

Anyway, glad you have a fix and I hope it'll endure!
