Just been reading this news article

Tesla Driver In First Self-Drive Fatal Crash

Its an interesting subject, cars that drive themself.
Apparently this driver was watching a film while his car was driving him to a destination he chose before hand.
however the front camera didnt pick up the white van turning against a bright sunlit sky and BOOM :/

wonder how many years away we are from this being the norm?

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

There is also another video from the 'victim' out there where a truck cuts into his lane and it looks like the owner is hoping to get a scratch or more , rather than take the controls and do the usual 'evasive action'.

I could be wrong but there are already drivers that believe this is the future. It certainly has merits to assist less able drivers, but 'self-drive' is in its infancy and should not be used as an alternative to common sense. One wouldn't have railway, tube and tram operatives if the process of destination reaching in one piece was idiot proof.

There's nothing new here: My vehicles, coincident with getting married, oddly enough, have all had a mode whereby they are driven from the back seat.

3 clicks on the phone and something like this appears and drives me to my destination

Very comfortable to sleep in the back on long trips

A while ago drove a friends Tesla, a P85D with socalled 'Insane Mode', jeez... quite a kick. Impressive machine. Very popular car over here due to many tax incentives to go electric.

The (60 years old) owner was like a kid showing off his new xmas present toycar, and was very eager & enthusiastic to make me use the self drive ...it somehow reminded me of 'friends' long time ago urging me to try LSD and heroin, "it's not dangerous, only feels good". Refused :O)

The car itself, cheap plastic feel all over. But the tech is amazing. The expensive 4 wheel equivalent of a smartphone.

Ive used the Teslas that are part of the Dutch taxi service . Great look, and ride, but I was surprised to find I could get my digit out into the open air through the door surround.

The idea of a " cleaver " car is very good, cannot argue against it it. As long as you are under 3 ft tall:-buttkick

I am surprised you did not get arrested for exposing your digit to the open air through the door surround :-rofl2
