I am currently using a Triax TD64 as my Sky dish, but this afternoon I decided to see what signal levels I was getting on the motorised TD78 @28.2E. The signals were end-stopping and so this is what gave me the idea. I really have no love for the minidish as it is too small for the job, even the zone 2 dish I have is not as good as a solid Triax dish. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do this, but what do others use as their Sky dish? Just interested.;)

We use a circular 60cm ex Sky analogue dish. It was ahem "liberated" from my parents house when they went over to Sky Digital, and made the long journey up the M6 from the Midlands. Its had assorted lnbs on it over the years - its currently got an octo on it.

The dish has a very faded and barely readable Rugeley Aerials logo on it :D

I am using a TD88 with the Astra 2 lnb (Inverto Black Ultra Quad) on a 10 degree offset along with Astra 1 and Hotbird. Totally unshakeable signal strength/quality.

It performs very well in all but monsoon like rain fall, or when wet snow collects on the lnb.

Laminas 1.2M fibre dish with an IBU, on a Clarke Tech USALS motor, covering 57E - 24.5W to an Octagon SX88. Displayed on a 20" Dyon LED TV.

Seperate 80 cm dish on 28E with a Humax Freesat for SWMBO.
Free Sat V8 meter. Sony Bravia 46" LCD, Sony BluRay and Home Cinema.

At the moment I'm getting 28E on a Triax TD88 with the LNB offset and the dish centred roughly on 36E. In most cases the SNR shows 99% and only if we have the aforementioned monsoon like conditions do I get signal dropout.

It's very interesting to see what others are using. Any opinions on the minidish? Oh, this is gonna be good!

Zone 1 minidish here >> albeit probably in what S ky might deem a Zone 2 area, it is properly installed rather than thrown up, so works well on all TPs in even the worst wx.

The only thing that upsets coherence is swallows and bats (not at the same time) flying across it.

In the UK I use an old 60cm "analogue" dish for Sky that I acquired about 10 years ago. Looks as good as new and signal levels are pretty solid. It's got an Inverto Black Premium Quad LNB on it which is also probably about 10 years old now and still going strong.

I am boring so I'll say I am using a Sky zone 1 minidish that came with the house.

Oh, that's really boring, Captain Jack and you as well, Tivu! Thought you lads might have had at least a 60cm dish to get Sky! :D

Sorry, Tony. And to make matters worse, I didn't even realign it! I did replace the LNB and the cable as it was only a single one, unsuitable to Sky HD...

TBH, with the new Astra Birds in Service and coming soon, the old Zone 1/Zone 2 demarcation is really only valid for what little of interest (Key amongst which is the Freesat EPG!) remains on Eurobird.

And most of those may be migrated to Astra soon.......

Captain Jack! What are you like? Didn't even realign the dish? Tut! Tut! No seriously, I found that so funny. :-rofl2 But I have ordered a nice, shiny and brand new TD78 to put Sky on. Been meaning to do that for a while now. So why not????
