Hello!
in the next years, always more and more spotbeams are coming, and will be used in the new satellite generation!
yesterday,a friend told me ,that he read on the net, that hotbird soon plans,to make s polish spotbeam!
in near feature, when the astra satellite on 23.5 east will be replaced, the have also a 2 arabic beam!

same happens now on atlantic bird 4A with the showtime/orbit transponder, much weaker then the others, and the most bad thing of all is the use of the same freqency,on 2 diffrent beams, like on amos!

here,i want to try, with the help of others,to make a list and overview, what spotbeams are coming, how it looks, also large dishes, when you not live at the "end" of the spotbeam, are also useless,to get them!
thanks for your input:)

Footprints are only released close to when the satellite launches - or after in some cases.

There is no evidence that Hotbirds 6 8 9 & 10 have any spotbeams - and 8 9 & 10 will be in service at 13E for around 10 years.

Many footprints are right here in our own library:

However - its certainly likely that spotbeams will become increasing important in the future - capacity is fast running out in the skies above Europe so an easy way to increase capacity is for future sats to have multiple coverage areas.

Hello!
also the the satellite postions,it self, will be very limited in the feature, also a satellite will be planed for 17 dregrees east ,i dont know when it will starts, but it will happen, that the satellites much nearer together then today!

a interesting project is_satbeams.com
with the target,to give ecactly information, what dish size is needed,in the area where the footprint is received!
this information,is missing on lyng and flysat,on 16e the sat has 2 diffrent beams, one to albania, but in lyngsat i read only european beam!

Well that'll add a new dimension to the hobby - and maybe increase the need for larger Dishes.

Note to self: Must try to buy field behind House ...................

Yes I've also read that article somewhere - saying that upcoming hotbird (one which will REPLACE existing one PRIOR to natural wearout), will have up to 45 spotbeams.

Thats KA-SAT - Ka band internet & data only :D And she will have 80 spots! Shes not replacing the current Hotties - shes an addition.
KA-SAT is scheduled for launch in third quarter 2010. It will be configured with over 80 spotbeams, making it the most advanced multi-spot satellite designed in the world to date. The satellite will form the cornerstone of a major new satellite infrastructure programme that will significantly expand capacity for consumer broadband services across Europe and the Mediterranean Basin, while providing new opportunities for local and regional television markets. Eutelsat will locate KA-SAT at 13 degrees East where it will join three large HOT BIRD™ Ku-band broadcasting satellites that form the world’s leading video neighbourhood. This colocation will enrich the range of consumer entertainment services offered from the Group’s prime neighbourhood by enabling satellite homes to receive television in the Ku-band and new rich media services in the Ka-band through a single dual-frequency antenna.

Wait till they introduce multiple spotbeams with frequency re-use between the spots! ----> if you live under one theres no chance of ever getting anything off the other one!

Lets see we could have all the fta psb channels on a 28E west spot and Greek TV on 28E east spot - on the same frequencies! :-rofl2 :-lmao

It would be nice to see what type of beam Astra will use when Astra 2D retires, will it be tighter across UK or wider? and what about spillover?

It'll be a 2-3 of years yet before SES start to think about replacing 2D :D

Analoguesat - Don't say that, look what's happened to 2A, let's hope so, it "won't happen" to 2D... :D

Considering distance to satellite, atmosphere structure, beam wavelength, there will be a physical limit for reducing size of the spotbeams I believe. Just I don't know requred formulas to calculate beam diffusion and other theoretical himath..

maybe the spotbeams, are so strong,in the future,in the cente point of the beam, that no dish will be reqeiered,to rceive it:)

I'll try to film a short video, how can I receive 40E C band 3675R transponder, using bare LNB :)

I tried that too in Finland and could get a watchable (analogue) picture! :D
