What satellite am I looking at?

Is there any way to tell which satellite I’m looking at if I don't have a compass?

What you need to do is - get the best signal you can on that sat, then scan it, then tell us what you are reciving.

Or if you think you know roughly where you are....

I have a Sat finder and can get a good signal but what software do i scan it with?

Ok - choose -

Settings - DiSEqC - then click on the green ball and click property, then list, then add, then drop down the menu and save the sat you want to scan.

Then Click on Channelist in the main menu bar, channelsearch , (the sat you just put in) and click on it.

OK I got that :-) But what if I don't know what sat I have my dish pointing at? how do i find that out? is there an easy way to pick up the sat transponder with out having to scan for them....

or am i going about this the wrong way?

OK - what sat are you looking fof first ?

Have you any close neighbours with sky dishes?
Good place to start is make your dish like theirs and do a scan on Astra 2A/2B/2D
and see if your seup is working OK.

i can find astra and hotbird doing that. Lets say that i swing my dish around and find a random sat signal and i don't know the degress. Do i have to guess which sat i found and then scan for channels using progdvb?

Yes pretty much unless you 'get your eye in' or spend £50 on a motor to do it for you.

ProgDvb is DisEqC comaptible to take the heartache out of it
