Blind search. Can somebody please tell me in layman's terms what's the difference between a blind and a normal search when scanning a satalite.

Normal search looks at all the TP data you've already got stored in the receiver and (effectively) returns whether that TP is active and, if so, what's currently on it. That stored data might have arisen from eg Factory defaults, previous searches or manually edited/added, or a combination of those.

Blind Search is a sweep of the entire band or, if the firmware allows it, selected parts and/or parameters of the whole band, and returns anything that's found. Some Blind search features are more successful in terms of accuracy and completeness than others.

Basically blind search finds transponders that are not in the receivers database, i.e feeds or occasional transmissions then stores them in the receiver if you so wish.

sorry to resurect this old thread, but i have also been puzzling over this.
i have a v8 finder mk2 and blind searching doesnt seem to follow. as i am still setting up my dishes, i dont know exactly what im pointed at yet so i have to search then look up on lyngsat the channels i find and extrapolate the sat from there.
but say for example i am on badr4 on the v8 but the dish is pointing to hotbird, the blind scan may or may not return any channels at all, but then i end up blind scanning several sats (on v8 menu) to find any working tp on whatever sat im actualy pointed at.

is my v8 doing some 'pseudo blind' scan ? am i missing some key part to all this (being a noob).
also, is it possible to add a fantasy sat to the v8 list that includes every single combination of frequencies, sym rate, etc to do a real blind scan, and if so would this work on for example an old dreambox that has no blind scan at all?

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

A V8 finder will allow you to peak a dish (and skew the feed/ LNB for best reception. There is really little point in using it in a blind search, unless you are pointing at a part of the sky for a forthcoming news or sports feed, in which case you might be better off with a S2X/4:2:2 compatible receiver.
