I installed a 6GB RAMdisk and put Tellicast on there, together with all the user directories. Over a few hours I only had one or 2 key missing failures. However, I was still losing some parts of some images (I'm still downloading all channels). MSG-Data Manager retrieved the MSG HRIT and some other World high res. The MSGs were all complete but some of the high res had bits missing.

I think the way to work is to use the RAM Disk for all incoming files. MSG Data Manager and some other s/w will remove old and processed files. I could see space being freed on the RAM disk as it was running. It looks like serious users have one PC to receive and another to process. However, I think it may work ok on one PC if you restrict the number of channels captured.

I Used Softperfect RAM Disk which will also archive the disk image on an HD. The latest version is not free but V3.4.8 is shareware, free for home users. Download SoftPerfect RAM Disk - MajorGeeks

I had a email in earlier in the week, asking for feedback on the Eumetsat software, specifically the altimetry data of Sentinel 3.

I'd better plug things in and try it.

Dear User,

You are receiving this email because you are a registered user of Copernicus Sentinel-3 altimetry data.

Following the annual Copernicus User Survey conducted at the beginning of 2019, EUMETSAT is now conducting a survey targeted to Sentinel-3 altimetry data users.

We hereby kindly invite you to complete the survey linked below (this should take you about 10 minutes):

EUMETSAT - Sentinel-3 Altimetry Survey

Your contributions will be very valuable to EUMETSAT and our continued development and provision of altimetry services.

And....... a few years later.

Than ks to a couple of days indoors I've managed to cobble all the parts together into a dedicated case, the TBS8920 PCi card, Asus motherboard M4N78 Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate and the Eumetsat software.

First run from Sirius on the satellite c20200211_114606.jpg20200211_141851.jpgard showed some issues with the motherboard HDMI output but I've found a workaround so in the next few days I'll have a play with the Eumetsat dongle.

I'm sorry to hear this. wish I had known about the 5990 as it has dual inputs perfect for both data channels for Eumetsat

An interesting document here:

At the moment the Eumetcast reserve capacity in case of Eute 10A failure is Eute 21B, but from early next year it will be Hotbird. I wonder if there is a medium term plan to migrate to 13E when 10B comes into service.

This also means there cannot be anything important allocated to 11317V & 11355V at any time from the 21E -> 13E changeover

I am trying a 6903 and although the signal is good I am getting absolutely no data channels on 11.263 or 11.387 completely bizarre, any clues anyone as to why ?

Dear EUMETCast-Europe User,

We mentioned previously that we would perform a test activation of the EUMETCast Europe service on the backup satellite HOTBIRD 13C (HB13C).

This test activation is now planned from 3 to 7 May 2021.

Ive had an email saying that licenses for the Meteosat 3hr data are expiring soon. When you get the email you need to log into the portal on the address in the email, go to the licenses link on the left side of the page & click on the update link.

Due to life events I STILL havent got round to building the Eumetcast station I was planning . Also its so bloody windy here the dishes keep moving!

11261 V,33000,2/3,16APSK,Pid:610-Eumetcast,new.
The new HVS-2(HighVolumeService) feed on the vertically polarised 11236 V has been activated.
11261 HV works simultaneously until December 2022. And about what's happening with the Horizontal service, read on Eumetcast.
Here's how the signal looks at the moment on both transponders, H/V, with a 1.10m antenna.

Via e-mail from Eumetcast:
Following our previous announcement regarding the potential migration of the EUMETCast Europe service from Eutelsat-10B (E10B ) to Hotbird-13G (HB13G) (EUMETCast Europe - Test for a possible change of prime satellite<https://user.eumetsat.int/news-events/news/eumet-cast-europe-test-for-a-possible-change-of-prime-satellite>), the test activation of HB13G has been completed successfully and we have received feedback from numerous users across the footprint, which has contributed to the evaluation of the performance of the new satellite.

Feedback received was mainly positive, with observed significant signal level improvement, depending on antenna size and location. In addition to better signal, the migration to HB13G consolidates both prime (HB13G) and backup (HB13F) satellites in the same position, and by using the same transponder downlink parameters it simplifies the user setup and enables seamless prime to backup switching ensuring uninterrupted service without user intervention. (note: users with multiple antennas are encouraged to continue using them, pointed to the 13° East position, for redundancy.)

The decision has therefore been made to go ahead with the migration of the EUMETCast Europe service to HB13G.

We are now proceeding to the next phase of the migration plan. Effective immediately, the EUMETCast Europe service is available on both E10B and HB13G. We strongly encourage all users to migrate to HB13G by the end of June 2024.

Setup requirements

The reception parameters for HB13G remain unchanged - please see the table below:

[A table with information on it Description automatically generated]

See detailed information on antenna pointing<https://user.eumetsat.int/resources/user-guides/eumet-cast-satellite-antenna-pointing-guide> to HB13G (which is in the same position as the backup satellite HB13F) or receiver setup for verified devices<https://user.eumetsat.int/resources/user-guides/eumet-cast-europe-user-guide>. (The device setup guides will be updated with the new HB13G transponder parameters).

Here's how you can perform the migration depending on your setup:

* If you already have two antennas, one pointed to E10B and one to the backup satellite (HB13F), you can use the one pointed to 13° East to receive from HB13G. After confirming good reception, the other antenna can then be pointed to HB13G.
* If you are using one antenna with two LNBs, each receiving data from either E10B or HB13G, then one of the LNBs needs to be removed from the antenna and the antenna repointed to HB13G.
* If you have only one antenna with single LNB pointed to E10B, you need to repoint the antenna to HB13G.

Planned outages on E10B

The transition period during which the EUMETCast Europe service will be available on both E10B and HB13G will extend until mid-July, at which point E10B illumination will be deactivated. There will be scheduled daily outages on E10B from 24 June until the end of the transition period. These outages - one to two hours each day - will help to ensure that all users, including those who may have missed the migration announcement or have yet to migrate, are aware of the migration and can complete their transition process.
