1,8 Channel Master, Black Pro LNB with CM feedhorn for 28 E which is my main interest when watching TV. VU+ DUO 4K SE, VU+ DUO 2, Octagon SF8008 and Vantage 8000 S and TS receivers. Fixed dishes at: 42 E (0,75 m), 28,2/28,5 E (1,8 m), 19,2 E (1,5 m), 13 E (1,1 m), 9 E (0,7 m), 5 E (1,2 m) and 1 W (0,7 m).

About to invest in another receiver and am not sure which one to choose.
They choice stands between the Octagon SF8008 and the VU+ Duo 4K SE.

The Vu+ is about twice as expensive as the Octagon but offers more options such as a CI+ slot and more.
Which of the two has the best (most sensitive) tuner?
Pros and cons?

Today I use a VU+ Duo2 and a couple of Vantage 8000S. Of theese two the VU+ has the best tuner but the Vantage has the best software (not Linux based).

So would you choose the Octagon or the Vu+?

I have both, for my use the Duo4K SE is the better box.

But if you don't need an LCD display, don't need FBC tuners and don't need in internal hdd then the SF8008 will be just fine for you.

If you do want blindscan, then get the sf8008 as the duo4kse won't do that.

If you don't have a Unicable II lnb and you don't need more than 2 tuners, then sf8008 should be just fine.

IMO the vu+ tuner is better, but many will disagree with that.

I totally agree. I tested both side by side, my Duo4KSE and SF8008 provided by a friend.
Both are good receivers, but Vu+ is largely better in my opinion.
Vu+ processor is faster and faster, you can easily note this during channel zapping (not only in this operation).
But it's up to you if you need CI slot and internal drive. If so, Vu+ is a very great and stable PVR device.
Not sure that Vu+ does not perform blind scan. I did not tested, but I believe it depends by the image installed.
Hope this helps.

Good point, I forgot about the Ci slots, the Duo4K SE has 2, but the the sf8008 does not have any.

For info, the FBC tuners do not support blindscan (it seems to be a hw limitation) and as the Duo4K SE only takes FBC sat tuners, FBC cable tuners or an MTSIF twin DVB-T/T2 tuner, there is no option for internal tuners to blindscan sat.

I guess a usb sat tuner could be used but I don't know if any exist that support blindscan.

Thank you all for your replies!

Most important for me is the senistivity of the tuners.
I don't need FBC tuners or internal HDD.
Reception of Multistream is not necessary but a bonus. Same thing with CI slot which is a bonus but not necessary.

Go for the Octagon, you will not regret.

You can order Edision Mini 4K and return it to amazon ( for free ) if the tuner is not sensitive enough.
Its processor is better than the one of Octagon.
The blindscan ( Multistream & T2 - Mi) of Edision Mini 4K and Mio + 4K works fine.

The OS Mio (+) is a combo, or was last time I looked.

I bought a SF8008 but since it doesn't have a CI-slot I bought a VU+ Duo 4K SE too.
I must say I'm more satisfied with the VU+.
However the price of the VU+ is almost twice as high.

Here's a few screenshots from a sf8008. Tuner seems to be good to me. I don't have the other box to compare. The date on Qatar TV is wrong, no idea why.

Like many of us here the sensitivity of tuners is vital. Not at home so cannot attach pics but just to say that (only after my tests and opinion) that the tuners in the newer model Octagon SF8008 4k Twin SUPREME (Avalink AVL2X1) are not as sensitive as the older SF8008 4k Twin tuners (Silabs si2166d). Alicante,España, both receivers connected to the same dish (Marrafa 1.8m PF) and LNB (Inverto Quad Flange)....... def fringe here for 28.2*e, 2F U.K. beam tranponder 12129 V 27500...........the 'Supreme' model showed pixellation whilst the older model retained full image.......12129 always a pain in the butt. Sorry for lack of pics showing dB, image etc. Perhaps others who have both models can share their findings. :Y

Simultaneous scan Identical coax and length. Supreme 12129 absent at that moment but higher at another time and fine right now. This is the boxes measuring themselves though, so does it actually mean anything?
