My Satellite Setup
Fortec Star dish/LNB connected to Passion+ HD receiver.
Compaq desktop vista PC connected to WiFi router directly to internet.
My Location

I have a Freesat dish and Fortec Star Passion+ HD receiver. All BBC HD channels are unstable (freezing, then starting, then freezing, and goes on and on...), while all other ordinary BBC channels are fine. None of ITV HD channels, or any of the other ordinary channels are freezing. What could be the problem with all BBC HD channels? Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

If you unplug the Passion from the mains, let it cool and plug it back in does it still exhibit the same problem? Does it have enough room around to "breathe" and is it out of direct sunlight?

The Passion doesnt handle BBC HD channels at all well - it is a known fault with the P+ and you can do nothing about it. I think its to do with frame handling (or something else really technical which I dont fully understand!). The BBC obviously just transmit using a slightly different version of the HD standard than is being used by ITV & C4 etc.

Just had a further thought on this - I seem to remember that recordings play OK. Is as if its able to buffer up better from a recording than in realtime. The downside is that scheduled recordings can fail because it times out before the channel change is synced up. I think you can get round this by having the P+ pre-selected to the channel that you want to record. I will leave you to have a play around with this if you want. I have since moved on to a Humax, so this mostly from a very dodgy memory.

Lots of interesting stuff in this forum :-

It had its detractors, but I quite liked the box myself, and sold about 40 to friends and customers here in Spain. Capacitors are a problem , but cheaply and easily fixed.
