It is quite some time now expects Dream released a dual DVB-S2 tuner for Dreambox. The DM7080 has a first step has been done, now the release of the tuner seems short to stand before.
Although there were as yet no official announcement of a dual DVB-S2 tuner of legend, but the latest driver updates have a little betrayed. So for the DM820 and DM7080 driver for a were resupplied "Si2166b Dual DVB This is a tuner of the company Silicon Labs, the (as just the Dreambox) can be integrated both in TV and set-top boxes. It now is every indication that it will be this act to the new Dual DVB-S2 tuner. This tuner supports all major standards, including DiSEqC 2.0 and Unicable course.
So far, had only the DM7080 as the first Dreambox ever an integrated dual DVB-S2 tuner. While this could theoretically be connected also in the smaller DM820, but the tuner was physically too big and does not really fit into the case of small Dreambox. The size of the tuner is incidentally also one reason why it has been installed in the DM7080 is turned by 90 degrees.
For the latest driver updates, however, indicate that legend scored the size under control.
The special feature of the dual tuner is that as well as the DM820 can easily turn into a twin receiver, which has a very compact design, and in both processing power and memory of the DM7080 in nothing stands by.
For the slightly more ambitious Dreambox users it is also more exciting! According to statements by Dream-developers, it will be possible to operate up to five built-in tuner. This can be achieved by two dual DVB-S2 tuner and a simple DVB-S2 tuner - three dual tuner can not in the DM7080 unfortunately due to hardware limitations are operated. More is possible only if external USB tuner can be connected. But even if it "only" 5 tuners - this should already be more than enough (if at all five terminals on the satellite dish are free).
Since the new tuner was not yet officially announced, but there are currently no information as to when this will be available at the dealership. However, it should not be too long, after all the drivers have already been published! More information can be found in Dreamboard and IHAD board .
