Just been down to the village for the arrival of 'Pere Noel'. Being France he turned up on foot, wearing jeans and clogs, in full red and white coat etc., white hair, beard and sunglasses. We didn't stay for the lighting of the tree, my offer to assist in said lighting with a litre of petrol and a Bic gas lighter didn't go down at all well.........apparently 'allume' has more than one meaning...

We were in Arras a couple of weekends ago and were in the square to see St Nicholas descend from the town hall Tower. They did an epic production on the struggle 'tween good and evil. Then he absailed down the tower, which I thought was impressive in floodlights, and then the panto resumed, so, not being fuelled by the kids' excitement, we thought it was a getting a bit long winded, so opted for an early dinner

Although I live in deepest, darkest rural France, our postal service has evolved slightly from the guy with a message in a cleft stick. However, on occasion we still have problems with parcel courier deliveries. SWMBO ordered via Amazon.uk, some special toothpaste. It's coming via DHL. Here's the route it's taken...

Similar story as yours, this is the route my paquete (containing one item of clothing) has taken on the way to Spain......also with DHL!

Well it arrived yesterday afternoon.....and the driver wore a natty red and yellow fleece in DHL livery.....
