Had a go this aft, found the good old foot in the middle of the dish and pull did the trick, left the strings on while I did it and adjusted the tension as I went. I've lasered the rim of the dish to make sure it's flat as well. I've beaten the worst of the dents out, found my lead dressing tools really good for the job.

Needed a little help at one point though :D

I'm quite surprised that the baby was sufficiently dented that you really needed to do any beating.

Come come, you must remember the old saying, "Spare the LNB support rod, spoil the child"

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Once you are happy with the dish results, when bolting the reflector back onto the back plate, use a number of plastic shims and nylock nuts.

The poor welding on the plate was often the reason many dishes of that era didn't perform.

Ive had wildlife protection on (plastic pot) for about a year now. (drilled a small hole at lowest point to let condensation out.) it dosent seem to effect the signal much if at all, seeing that your feedhorn is similar you might like to try it, i had to eat a fair few pots of yougurt, icecream and other sweets before i found the right size pot but it was worth the sacrifice!!

Excellent idea.

I used to tie on a freezer bag, jab it with a pin and cut off the excess. This is a much more professional looking solution. Mine used to look a mess after the first few days.
