Hi,

This is my first time posting but i'm a long time reader, long story short I convinced my missis to allow me to put up a rather large motorised setup towards the end of last year (I waited until she was distracted to mention the size of the dish) I had played around with analogue as a teenager but hadn't followed up on things for a number of years.

After spending a good few months playing with KU band and learning from my mistakes I added a C band LNB to my setup, I was expecting limited success on a 1m dish but managed to pull in 3E and 11W from an offset LNB.

I recently picked up a Triax KA band dual LNB and although I had no expectations of finding anything from the east coast of England I decided to see what's up there on a low budget...

To my surprise I pulled in the following two transponders yesterday from 13E on the KA band:

11.985 H 20.329
And a repeat on
11.135 H 20.329

Both are coming in at around 45% which seems a very robust signal (no breakup in picture at all)

With my receiver I am unable to input the true KA frequencies but set to a universal LNB these are working, at first I though this was a problem with my DiSEqC switch and I was accidentally looking at my C band LNB (the transmissions on these transponder are the same as the Libyan C band on 3E which offset matches this position on my setup)

To prove otherwise I got up there and put my hand over the KA LNB, within a few seconds the signal dropped out so this would appear to defiantly seem to be coming from 13E..

Can anyone else confirm reception? With the lack of affordable KA reception possibilities I'd love to be able to confirm this..

Many thanks

Quite possibly Tooway (or similar) broadband frequencies

I'm getting viewable pictures though?

Oh, right, not sure then.

Interesting - Eutelsat dont list any Ka band on Hotbirds 13B C or D and 13A has now left 13E & is at 8W.

What are the pictures showing?

Edit: Never mind, just seen your post come in!

I have the KA LNB on a offset bracket at the west of my dish (viewing away from the dish) with approx 5 degree spacing, pointing at 8E to get this signal which would suggest around 13E?, I can also pickup a data transponder at 4E which seems to be the KA sat at 9E so I think the offset is around 5 degrees.

I have my C band offset in a similar position to the east side i.e. 8.3 E on my motor receives 3.1e c-band.

According to Flysat there's Sicral 1B at 13E transmitting a single data channel in Ka band. I suppose it's possible they've lit up another another transponder and that's what you've picked up...

I am wondering why you can't add your own LO to the Technomate?

Great find mate.

Hi,

I think they are the same tp - shifted by the ku lnb lo settings on the receiver

11135+10600 = 21735

11985+9750 = 21735

Doesn't the Triax offically only do 19700 - 20200?

Blue sky thinking here - but you couldnt be getting some hellish weird mixing product from 3.1E could you?

Disconnect the C-band lnb & see if the Ka signal stays.

Havent the faintest idea how this could work but it seems a bloody strange coincidence that you are getting strong Libyans off C-band 3.1E and weak Ka Libyans from a nearby lnb feeding the same receiver.

L-Band output is different on the KA band LNB's (950 - 1950 MHz). As you're using KU Band (950 -2150) you are possibly finding other TP's on Sicral 1B, with most likely an error in the frequency reading due to the difference in the L-Band outputs.

Just done this.. I have no idea how but you are right! If I disconnect the c band LNB the signal goes, weirder still if I reconnect it and then disconnect the KA on the other side it also goes? It must be some kind of signal cross on the switch but I still don't understand how placing a hand over the ka disrupts the signal if its actually coming in on c band on the other lnb? interesting I will have to investigate more tomorrow, I look like a mad man on ladders in the dark..

One mystery solved - now to work out how this has happened.

:D

We had some odd mixing products reported when Astra 2F went on air at 28E last year. Some folks were reporting signals at multiple spurious frequencies, all very strange.
