2 lnb on one 4.2m dish

VU+ duo and Solo on 1m on 13E , 80cm on 7w and 1.8m on 28.2E
My Location
Cyprus
Is it possible to have more than one lnb on prime focus dishes? most notably a 4.2m

If so, what's the effectiveness like on both the center, and off center mounted lnbs?

Thinking of knocking two birds down with one stone by going grossly oversize on 28.2 and 19.2
 
Before you spends loads of €'s, you are aware that the European beams of the new uk birds stretch nowhere near as far east as the current 2A / 2B birds? You may find you have problems even receiving the encrypted channels this time next year on a 4.2m dish
 
Its just something to be aware of - until one of the new birds powerd up the European beam we have no idea just how far east the European signals will go.

However the UK beam thats already been powered up on 2F has a staggeringly steep drop off at the beam edges. Theres plenty of reports on the forum confirming this.
 
i'm aware of the worthlessness of the UK beams.... but the PE beams as well?!

when are we roughly expecting the first reports?
 
No point speculating until the europe beams are lit up.

Late summer is as good as guess as any other - by then 2E should be on station and about ready to take over from 2B (or is it 2A - Ive forgotten!)
 
Cyprus also has a problem in that Astra 2E has a Middle Eastern beam. Presumably this will transit on the UK beam frequencies but we dont know for certain yet.
 
What type of dish is this 4.2m, solid or mesh ?


Make and model might help determine the performance off beam.

It would be better to call it a Western Europe beam to be honest... They've even cut a lot of the Nordic area out too.

i'm assuming 19.2 won't suffer the same fate right?
 
Well 1N will be moving to 19E in the autumn, which will lead to some changes there, but quite what they are likely to be is just guesswork atm.

To be honest as a 4.2m dish will be hundreds of €'s Id suggest you save your money until the end of the year when we should have an idea of whats going to be possible - especially as a third new bird (identical to the 2 other new ones) will be going into service early next year.

SES have also made a spectrum grab for the Eutelsat 28A frequencies - and if Eutelsat relinquish their frequencies then you will lose a lot of the Eutel-28A widebeam stuff you currently have as it will move onto the west European beams of the new bird(s).
 
Well here's my dilemma..

I found a 3.1 famaval and a 4.2 both used, for dirt cheap, as in 200 and 500 euro respectively (plus moving and installation).

I currently have a 1.8 on 28.2 so i thought why dont i get the 3.1 for 2.8and just turn the 1.8 towards 19.2. Then the 4.2 came up and thought alright, since i got the space why not. Needless to say i logged in here to knock 2 birds in one go bu mounting 2 lnb on a 4.2 for both 28.2 and 19.2 and call it a day.

Now i'm thinking going back to the 3.1 for 28.2 until the end of the year when i know whats going to happen, and if the 4.2 woont work for 28.2 i just turn the 3.1 towards 19.2 and abandon 28.2 altogether, or just get the 4.2 as well if its going to suffice..

I hope i made some sense there haha, thoughts?
 
AT those prices Id grab the dishes then worry about where to put them later :D
