Evening all,
I'm new posting on here, but I'm a long time reader of these forums. I need some help with a reception problem I cannot fix on a VisioSat SMC 80cm dish with an MTI QUAD Supreme Line LNB.
I'm based near Toulouse in the South of France and two years ago I installed this dish ito replace a standard 60cm sky dish with a mono LNB to improve reception of UK channels broadcast from Astra and Eurobird Satellites at 28.2E. The main aim was to improve signal strength, particularly in rain. The set up worked pretty well for a 18 months, but then I started to lose channels at certain time of the day. One minute they would be at 80% strength and 100% quality and then over half an hour they would randomly drop to zero reception, then come back again. Some transponders at higher frequencies (BBC News, C4HD, Red Button services) I have lost completely.
I only have a cheapy analogue meter to tune it in, but thinking it was the dish orientation, I have now tried three times to retune it and every time the best I can get is some transponders (including BBC, Channel 4 etc at 100%) and others at zero (interestingly, the Sky Box is still showing me the channels even though it says that the signal is not locked or has the right transport stream). Over time, the signal strength on the good transponders comes and goes as well.
Fortunately I left the old dish up there and cabled up. When I compare, I'm getting way more signal off the smaller dish and can still get all the channels, whilst I'm having all these problems with the larger dish.
I'm starting to suspect the LNB? It has been subjected to very hot and cold temperatures in the last year, but it's 18 months old and I can still receive some channels through it. The old sky dish LNB has been up there for 10 years and is still going strong?
I'm stumped frankly....and a little frustrated.
