28E, complete blackout, 9:40UTC (10:40GMT)

Just watching BBC1, all broke up and no signal. No signal at all from any channel on 28E. Restarted the box and channels were back.

Within the next 10 minutes I'd had several phone calls from clients all reporting the same thing. Most distant phone call was from over 100 km away so not local interference. So either space weather or 28E complete power down.

Edit: might be sun outage. Going to check now.

It is the start of the sun outage season, especially at that time of the day.

E2 log is created on restart. Creation time of that file corresponds with time stated by the outage calculator.

I found details of these outages on the SES site, hits us in the middle of homes under the hammer much to the wifes disgust. A few days more then no more problems again till spring. If only bbc had +1s like all the other channels.

Funny you should mention that ................. Auntie has only just today announced that there is to be a BBC1 +1 Channel!

I was waiting for this Sun Outage to check my Eastern and Western limits. Preparing for weekend, but this evening sun appeared, so took some pictures of it. Unfortunately pictures are too exposed, next time will try to use welder's mask. But, anyway, found out that I can easily get 37,5*W and also can try 45*W, especially at winter time when there are no leafs. Distance to those trees 150 meters ish. On weekend will try to do same measurements towards my most-eastern bird, which is 96,5*E with elevation less than 1*

Sun outages are very useful for alignment. For example, I found a better position for my dish in the garden for potentially receiving some eastern satellites

A side question... do people living on the equator experience year-round daily outages?

Erm, I got caught out today, even after reading this thread only days ago. Panic as all the Finnish channels from 1W disappeared and I was about to go out for the day and needed to set something to record. Ho hum.

Even it is Saturday, I was trying to not be lazy and woke up early to check whether 96,5*E is receivable at my place. Firstly, there were some mist and little clouds, but not so bad. Secondly, sun is a bright star and it is not so pleasant to observe it with naked eye and also not so easy to take a pictures of it. This time I used welder's chameleon mask.
According to calculator sun should be behind 96,5*E at 08:02. I took picture at 08:00, and sun was already in LOS. second picture represents position of sun at 08:25.
Therefore, it is possible for me to get arc 96,5*E-45*W, with some restrictions at the very ends.
