Looking to install a second LNB on my sky dish to get Hotbird
My Location
Essex
Hi,

New to the forum, so please be gentle!

i am sure this has been asked, but tried looking through the threads but couldnt find the answer.

I am about to move to the north Essex Coast and when sky install their dish I wanted to add a second LNB to get hotbird and subscribe to the Sports Channels.

I am looking for a suitable receiver, and have seen a holder for the lnb, and sat finder I will buy.

My question is, is the small sky dish suitable to receive the hotbird sat on the Essex coast. Also if installed more than 1 extra lnb, are there any other i could receive with this set up? I am aware i will need a diseqc switch.

Thanks for any advice.

Andy

Welcome to the forum Andy.

The Sky minidish is not ideal for multisat reception, although it is possible, Hotbird is 15 degrees offset, so you would find that signal strength would be poor and regularly drop out with rain. I regularly fit second minidishes for Hotbird and they work well for single satellite reception, you will however require a second receiver for the sat, as the Sky digibox does not have DiSEqC capability, nor is it designed for adding other satellite channel lists.

If you wish to subscribe to outside of UK satellite providers, you will need to make sure that the receiver you buy is suitable for their subscription cards.

Thanks ROLFW,

I was pondering if I could just use the sky dish or upgrade to a 1m motorised dish.

Has anyone found any problems with planning permission for a second dish? Would be ideal if the sky one stayed and I had a second dish for everything else.

Thanks again,

Andy

Unless you are in a sensitive area, you are perfectly within your rights to have two dishes, a Sky minidish and perhaps a 90cm motorised dish would be within planning regs.
