My Satellite Setup
Triple Dragon, Dreambox 8000, Echostar AD3000ip, TBS6522,6925,6983 PCie cards.
Gibertini 1.25m motorised dish driven by the AD3000, with either Inverto BU Quad or Norsat / XMW Ka LNBs . SMW 1.05m + 3 other dishes. Speccy: Promax HD Ranger+

From what you've said there, presumably using NIT should always give my receiver the current accurate details of what is where on the satellite it is searching? ie it should find all channels on all receivable frequencies / transponders, and store that data correctly

I may be wrong, but I suspect it'll only store the channel details of the TP's the receiver has in its database.
