3 LNBs to 4 Receivers

Astra 19.2 (Central Focus), Astra 28.2 + Hotbird 13 satellites using Hauppauge NOVA HD-S2, Fortec Star Passion & Mvision HD-300 Combo receivers

What is the easiest way for 4 receivers to receive 3 satellites? The only way I can see would be to buy 4 x 5 port DiSEqC switches, but this involves a lot of wiring.

I've also searched and found multiswitches, but it's all very complicated and they all seem to do different things.

For example, how would the Technisat Multiyenne be wired up? Do they simply creating a housing with a DiSEqC switch inside, or is it all circuitry?

I think the easiest way to do it would be to use a multiswitch.

For 3 satellites and 4 receivers you would need one with at least 13 inputs and 4 outputs ( not sure if someone makes that exact configuration). Each sat need 4 inputs from a quattro LNB, plus there is an extra input for a terestrial feed. I don't suppose it would be very cheap either.


The cheapest way to do it, would be to buy FOUR 4-way Diseqc1.0 switches, and use 3 Quad LNBs. Yes there would be a lot of wiring. I would advise that you used the Compression or crimp-on F-connectors to make life a lot easier.

They do a sat switch that comes as 17 x 6 outputs I believe but at a cost of around £160 and quattro's to purchase also, it won't be cheap :D
 
Three quad LNBs and four 4 way DiseqC switches would be the easiest and cheapest way, plus there is far less cable involved, as the DiseqC switches sit behind the dish.
 
EMP ProfiLine has a 13/4 Multiswitch .

Although a multiswitch looks interesting, they're far too expensive for what they do (in my opinion). I think you've all answered my question that using multiple DiSEqC switches is the way forward (so thanks!)

Silly question, but are there tool(s) which prepare the cable? I've always used a sharp knife. With CAT5/6 Ethernet cable there are crimping tools - does such a thing exist for satellite cable?
 
You can get cable stripping tools, but I have never used one.

As for connectors there are two main types (other than screw on) ; compression and crimp.

I just got some waterproof compression connectors and a tool yesterday from Screwfix, probably not the cheapest place for the tool, but I wanted it yesterday.:)
 
Quads are more exponsive than Quattros but you need to buy a multiswitch instead of diseqc switches then.

Overall, the quattro/multiswitch path is more robust & stable.
