Hello everybody,

This satellite has some narrow beams that are extremely hard to catch in fringe areas, and much more out of them. Further on some transponders can simultaneously transmit from two beams, either A+D or B+C.

Here are its footprints:

I am looking forward in seeing your reports.
Best regards.

Yes, I was just checking that bird yesterday to see what I could scan in, as there were a couple of new channels on there.

I'll blind scan it later and see what comes up.

Thanks.

I am trying to understand how transponder names and transmission Spots are connected with. The handbook says:

"The frequency plan is shown in Figure 1. The channels are designated as A, B, C and D and refer to the four downlink coverages. Two uplink coverages are defined, one per polarisation and each being an envelope of two downlink service areas, A+D and B+C."

There are transponders with 108MHz width (AR, BR, CR, DR) and 36MHz (A1..A3, B1..B6, C1..C6, D1..D3).

So are these the possible assignments ?

A1,A2,A3: A
B1,..,B6: B
C1,..,C6: C
D1,D2,D3: D
AR: A or A+D
BR: B or B+C
CR: C or B+C
DR: D or A+D

According to lyngsat this looks to be right.

So the following question comes up to me:
Are all four frequencies of the transponder DR marked with A+D really receivable also over Spot A ?

This could be proven very easily from Spain and Portugal. Both countries are located far outside of Spot D. Anybody that can confirm this ?

For those in UK or elsewhere that want to try, there are two multiplexes on Eurobird 3, beam D, that carry 8 channels (Mega, ANT1, Alpha, Star, Skai, M.TV, Alter with very degraded picture quality, and a test card) of the greek private DTT provider Digea.

Frequencies:

11161,Η,14095 3/5 DVB-S2/QPSK
11181,H,14095 3/5 DVB-S2/QPSK

The channels are encrypted with BISS (not difficult to find the right key), but reception of those two frequencies might be a challenge. Their signal is low even in Greece, and varies throughout the day (5 - 10 dB in my system).

Footprints look like an easy catch in UK but I can't see anything on my Penta 85 (very roughly aligned though) in southern England.

33.2E Eurobird 3

A couple of strong feeds that I found recently on the B/C Spot beams

11127 V DVB-S2/8PSK 1980 3/4 S Italia feed
11134 V DVB-S2/8PSK 1980 5/6 S Italia feed

Hi william-1,

4:2:2 feeds

No these were 4:2:0, 4:2:2 found in the 11450 to 11700 part of the Ku band several weeks ago with sports feeds some 4:2:2 also in the 12.6 to 12.75GHz part of the ku band last week all Vertical.

Hi strs65 deepbluesky et al,

Good signals on these two TP's today... Alter TV is just showing a test card ATM... the picture quality on this channel was abysmal... the test card looks fine though... :-righton

Best Wishes,
Zorch

Thanks Zorch! I think this is the first reception report from UK for those two frequencies, I haven't seen another. Alter is almost bankrupted, its 650 employees haven't been paid for almost a year now, and all of its transmissions (satellite by Nova and Digea, DTT, analogue) have been stopped throughout Greece. Quite a drama actually...

Hi again strs65,

I'm not sure if it makes much difference to reception of the other beams... but whenever I move my Dish to Eurobird 3 at 33.0°E... I always peak my signal on...

11.105H [2441] 2/3 DVB-S [QPSK] 3000 Kbps [Spot D]

Anybody from Spain or Portugal ?

At _http://www.digital-forum.it/showthread.php?p=2782833#post2782833 someone from Lucca/Toscana does not have stabile reception on 1.20m and thus i really wonder if Spot A is beeing used at all on 11161H/11181H.

New satellite (Eutelsat 3C @ 3 east) and frequencies for Digea (ANT1, ALPHA, M.TV, ALTER at 12682,Η,8375 2/3 DVB-S2/8PSK and Mega, Skai, Star at 12694,Η,8375 2/3 DVB-S2/8PSK).
