hi Evan --
no chance here tonight under these skies:( i only locked 12092 the other day in clear skies -- i lost it when the cloud rolled in ..........12092.webp

Cheers Nelson ..
There's hope then ..

12129R.webp Not much change this morning ..
12129R which was I think my best shot is now hovering around 3.2db with very occasional blips up to 3.5db
The rain has stopped and the dish/lnb are dry ...but it is still cloudy.
I could deduct about 1db for being 2 degrees off focus I guess ..but this would still only give me a possible of 4.2db ..which I think is insufficient ..
So unless there is a time of day element as well ..then Id guess only a bigger dish would make this possible at my location.

I am flabbergasted that anyone is getting anything at all on Russian beams in the UK.

It might also be interesting to try an SL3 on this bird ..but not possible for me as there this would require removing all the lnb cluster at the focus ..which is just not worth the effort and would create a lot of work ..
The SL3 wouldn't neccessarily be a good match for our dishes but has the advantage of not using a plate ...due to it's design and use of septum depolarisation..
Anyone wanna try it ?

SL3 VS? Is there any Ka on this bird?

No Llew but we forget since we generally block it off that SL3 has a ku circular port in the centre ..which covers the same chunk of spectrum we are persuing in this thread..
;)

hi - just had a look here at 12092 and i,m getting an occasional lock now as the cloud thins

Of course, I forgot that VS. No use my trying with my dish, I'll leave it to the big boys :-lol

absolutely nothing here at 12092R Nelson ...not even a hint of NoLocked on the scan ...
out of curiosity ..what do you get from 12130R ?

hi - cant tell which beam i,m seeing at 12130 ...... Russian or SSA as i,m just using a black ultra universal l.n.b. ...... 12092 receives the Russian beam on this t.p when set to horizontal --- still locked here now and giving frozen images on NHK world

I am out metal detecting but I've left my box scanning for the day on 36E it will be interesting to see what I've locked on my return

For what its worth on 12130 i get 1.8 db on vertical and 2.7 db on horizontal

This is indeed a problem ..
but the reason I'm -assuming- I'm looking at SSA ..is that I'm using a dedicated circular lnb ..and when the L/R scans are combined I dont see a peak for 12130 in H/L

VScombined scan.webp

and at 12092R there is definately more of a hump in the trace in R ..and little if anything in L ..
Still nothing I can analyse tho'
FWIW ...I reckon youd easily seperate and lock 12130R with a circular lnb ..or possibly just a thin plastic plate in the throat of the linear lnb you're using Nelson

So ...still beyond my reach ..but with a 1.8m surely doable..
Took an inverto black ultra and removed the cap ..
Then inserted a long tapered dielectric plate from a scrapped eagle aspen ..
The Aspen onlty covered a small range in the 12 ghz region (DirectTV)
Rotated the inverto through 45 deg ..
This would theoretically reduce any linear reception close to null ..but have no effect on circular ..
Then scanned using universal range in H ..which translates to L ..
12149L is now being received at around 4.1db variable ..
Close but no cigar ..
here is the scan..
Anyone managed this on a 1.5m in the UK yet ??

12149L close but still out of reach.webp

Sadly, I can't test 36E on my Gibby as the house is in the way.
12130R has also increased on this fine evening to about 3.3db ...>>3.9db and fluctuating wildly.
but interestingly ..still no sign of 12092 as locked by Nelson ..??
This peak is simply not there ..
So I am assuming I am indeed ..ultra fringe for the Russian beam ...and only about 70 miles west of Nelson..
