So, how does this work? Do the TV's convert them into one image or whatever?

Not sure about TVs using this type of stereo image. I think they use anaglyph (two -colour layer) images, using red/green lens glasses. Although there must be, or these transmissions wouldn't be available. Someone will probably know.

Cheers mate looking for the world cup in 3d open to c/s on most networks have a c/s hd box plus a 3d ready projector is this enough to receive, are the standard glasses as you say blue/red ok to see properly?

You could try this test channel with your equipment. Not sure what specs you need - tried it with cheapo red/green ones on my Sony Bravia with dire results.

The red/green specs are for anaglyph transmissions. The split screen 3D channels need different equipment.
