Still buying 3d blue rays. I have loved the format since seeing 3d IMAX at Expo 86 in Vancouver. Fortunately I have recently bought a 3d 4k LG oled set which has the best most natural 3d I have seen so at least this should last me a few years if the TV sets are no longer available. Worry is that the software may be in short supply. Some are hoping 3d Starwars will give the technology a boost. The best thing that could happen for 3d could be for a no glasses technology be invented which works better than has so far been tried.
 
3D has no chance until you get the experience without having to wear the glasses. Both my & my OH wear prescription glasses (Im very shortsighted so cant do without mine) so having to wear a pair of active glasses over them does not appeal.
 
I am very short sighted too. The combination of passive 3d 4k upscaling and the very light cheap glasses or clip ons is much better than active 3d. You also don't get the strobbing from external light sources and I have not seen any evidence of the dreaded crosstalk whick plagued active systems.
 
Said it six years and three years ago myself, 3DTV is an over-hyped fad, and like all previous attempts at it, a few bought into it, used it a few times, and now it is going away again... :rolleyes:

20 years from now it'll probably make another reappearance, and then go away again...:-rofl2

I am just lightly short-sighted, but have astigmatism in both eyes. Different major diretcions for left and right.
I have major problems seeing 3D with the active glasses I got with the 3D set.
I have problems seeing the 3D effects even from passive glasses they hand out at the Cinemas.
I have been assured by eye-doctor and spectable pusher that I probably can't see the 3D effect no matter what.
And I usually leave a 3D film with a head-ache, whether it is on the couch or in the theatre.

Actually, that's wrong, as I don't leave a 3D film anymore. No point in going in the first place.

I wish someone would wake up to the fact that "the next big thing" is not 3D, 4K, HDR, OLED, whaever.
the nextg big thing is more RELEVANT tv.

I will happily watch re-runs of my favourite program in SD, as long as it is now, and I want it badly.

The US Republican, erhm, qualifying rounds (for lack of a better term) are not more entertaining because they're in HD...
...they're entertaining because they have Idiot Trump in them! SD/HD doesn't matter! 3D/HDR/4K is completely irrelevant! You can watch it on low-bitrate youtube and it is *still* entertaining!
