4.8 E from North London

Excellent outcome - albeit one with a lesson most of us will store away in our fund of strange things wot can happen!

A good result. I recall that the 1m dish lying outside has a drain hole at the bottom bend of the LNB arm - now I know it's there for a real reason.

Ditto my TD110 ................. but it didn't stop the arm bending when the whole lot fell over!

My sat man arrived, straight up the ladder to the dish, drilled a hole in the metal arm that holds the lnb and a hole load of water came out!! He said the metal arm had actually changed shape due to the freezing water. He has left the hole there so any future water will just drain out.

He realigned the dish,

It would be OK for you to name the installer in this instance, as he sounds like the sort of person that can get work through sheer ingenuity up a ladder.

The make and origin of the dish wouldn't go amiss either, just in case this is a nationwide issue.

Ladder eh? That old chestnut! Sometimes there is no alternative than to revisit the dish installation when investigating. I must admit, I thought drain holes were pretty standard.

Did you say it was a Technomate dish? I used to really rate their kit especially the receivers, however having had a couple of problems with Technomate Diseqc mounts, I now have second thoughts. I've seen a mount that had 3 degrees of play in it as a direct result of poor manufacture and quality control, so perhaps they are losing their touch.

The frustrating thing is the amount of time, effort and risk (up a ladder) diagnosing and fixing a problem created by poor design/manufacture.

On my Penta 85 on that 11747v transponder I get 39% SNR on Dreambox 800 in "damp" weather. Goes up to 43% in clear weather. On 11727H I get 61% SNR - really depends on what TP you're tuned into even though they are all on the same beam.

I'd say that's a par score for that setup.
