Hi there i am wondering if a 1.1m triax dish should be able to pull the west beam on 42e? i know the east beam cant be got without a huge dish but hopefully the east beam can. is the east beam strong in the uk? any idea wat percent signal quality i would get?

The problem with using Triax dishes for weak signal work is that the useless elevation adjustment is wobbly laterally as well as vertically. So it will prove impossible to maximize the signal strength and quality. :-sball

Why do they persist with this totally useless way of 'adjusting' elevation? :confused:

I bet many people have bought such dishes for weak signals and are annoyed by this.

A Triax 110cm should be more than adequate for the Western footprint.
 
Don't know, I'll try the eastern beam later on my TD110.

I disagree about the elevation bracket though, it doesn't wobble.

Some find it difficult to adjust though, granted. I've got used to it, so don't have a problem.

Misread, yeah Western beam is easy peasy!
 
I think he means the Türksat 3A east beam, which might be around 40dBW in Glasgow.


The stong beams can be received on a Zone 1 mini dish!
 
It looks like there are some TRT local channels and a music channel on the Türksat 3A east beam, is this what they are after? :confused:

There are bound to be some Türkish people in the Glasgow area who get it as they would want all their regional TV and radio. If there is a community association there, they might know.

looking at footprint maps - i dont think scotland will be any stronger than here in north west yorks -- i listen to radyo eksen regularly -
( one of the best all round rock music staions)
its on Turksat 3A east beam 11054 - H - 30000 - and is not a strong signal even on a 1.8 channel master offset - and becomes borderline in very poor weather 10 % below best here today - i would think a good quality well tuned 1.5 c.m would be a minimum --- if you say which transponders you wish to get i will test signal strengh here --

I was referring to 11096 H which is also 30000 and 5/6 so the reception may be similar.

From the screenshot, it looks like a 1.5m may be too small, it seems very weak on the 1.8m.

hi - just tried 11096 H - it shows the same strength --
yes on second thoughts i think 1.5 would probably only work in perfect clear weather conditions ----

Well I agree with it being not very good, it doesn't wobble once adjusted, but getting it to that state is awful, in fact I think it's serious cack. :-rofl2, Give me a Gilbertini of Fracarro elevation bracket any time.:)

Yes, I meant that it wobbled when trying to tighten it up. My original post is perhaps a little unclear.

It also shudders when you try to yank it up or down, always too tight or too loose, not much precision in movement there.

If my heavy steel 1m LH had that type of bracket and not the pivoting type that it has, it would be impossible to get it on a weak signal. With the pivot, two spanners and balancing it on my lower arm, it is possible to get the absolute peak of the weakest signals.

It always takes ten times longer to adjust the Triax type, with the heaving shuddering noises people always wonder what on earth it is you are doing to it. :o

I won't be buying another Triax dish again, unless they sort it out. It ruins perfectly good dishes.

I really have no idea why they persist with it when a pivot type can be set in seconds. :confused:
 
Just don't use them anymore, plain and simple :D

As mentioned, Gibertini and Fracarro are preferred.

It is worth complaining to Triax so they know why sales have gone down, and do something about it.

Since they invented it in the first place, they probably think it is brilliant.

I was wondering if they had a patent on it and sold the design to other manufacturers but they seem to be the only ones using it.

At least it shows that the other manufacturers like Gibertini, Fracarro, Orbital, ISS, Raven etc, have more sense.

hibees04, it says in your system information andrews 1.2 , you will easily get 42e west beam channels on that size dish

the best elevation adjustment i have found is the az-el mount for channel master just turn the screw to fine adjust elevation :)
 
Having upgraded from a Triax to a Gibertini I have to concur about the poor quality of the elevation adjustment on the Triax. I found that to achieve fine adjustment one had to tighten the clamp up to the point where it was difficult to move the dish face. I only improved the situation slightly by applying a couple of drops of fine vaseline oil to the clamp bracket.

The difference between the Triax and the Gibertini is huge and I wouldn't think of going back to Triax.
