Should these two be an easy catch on an 80cm? Scanned 4w today and could only manage about 25% on the Ukranian channels. Practically all of 8w was giving me only 30% except Qatar TV which was 47%.

30w in comparison comes in much stronger, almost up to 80%.

I'm in the South East of England if that helps things.

The Ukrainians are on Amos 2 which is poor in the UK at the best of times. Power across Kent is about 42dBW suggesting a 120-150cm dish is needed.

Amos 2 was due to be replaced by Amos6 next year but seeing as A6 is now scattered over a couple of square miles of the Florida countryside A2 will have to continue in service until a replacement can be built / leased.

Many Thanks for the info AnalogueSat. A big shame about Amos6, hopefully the wait for a replacement/lease won't be too far away.

Its normally around 3 years from signing the contract for building a new broadcast satellite to the launch of the new bird. If Amos 2 is suspected of nearing End Of Life Amos may have to lease a satellite if there is anything suitable available for lease.
