Hi all, still not decided which receiver to get, was going to get a Humax then a Manhattan then a FortecStar but then started to read about this Dreambox. Still undecided, any ideas?
Anyway my question is, some receivers are said to work with 5in1 cards and others 6in1 cards. Could somebody explain the relative merits and disadvantages of both please, and which would you recommend. Thanks again.
ps any advice on a receiver would be welcome.

sunny manchester (i wish )
5 in 1 & 6 in 1 its down to the numbers of service providers,
Ive seen a 10 in 1 doing the rounds (tried it never got it to work)
(6 in 1 funfiles is what to aspire for) as for Dreambox
(or nightmare) the jurys out, if i were you i wouldn`t bother for nowas no software around for it.(if you got diseq motor go for humax)the best supported reciever around.
I intend to buy a Dreamboxnext week(but i can afford to have it propping my Dvd player up) as i am still keeping my other setup,(just in case its a lemon).I will post all my problems and achivements (or lack of) here.DAVE.

The Humax 5400z, with the latest patch, is a good bit of kit. I've had one for over a year and it's worked faultlessly, even with the cheap DiSeqC motor, which I bought from a French hypermarket. I use a Silvercard with DS9 software and 6in1 files on a Funcard. If you download your files from a reputable source and keep them up-to-date, you shouldn't have any difficulty getting them to work. There seems litle to choose between DS9 and 6in1, though I normally use the latter.

I try to ensure that I have the latest patch and that the PMC table is current. To program the cards, I use Elvis and Multiprog; they're easy to use and work reliably.

Good luck.

The 5in1 and 6in1 you saw advertised are probably the same thing. The six systems currently on a "6in1" card are:

Irdeto
Seca/Mediaguard
Nagra
Viaccess
+ Betacrypt - a sub version of Irdeto
+ TPScrypt - a sub version of Viaccess

The problem is that some people don't count the last two sub systems as separate from their parent system. Mickey, the original writer of funcard files, insists his file is called "4in1".

Unfortunately, despite the fact that everyone uses Mickey's files, they ignore his wishes and call them "6in1" files.

Confused ? - Don't worry, if you're not confused, you haven't understood.

Thanks for explaining it . Still confused so i think i got the gist of it. One receiver I have had my eye on recently is th Manhattan Starlight 6800. Seems to be able to decode everything with the patch and has both Diseq1.2 and 36V, worth buying ?????
