Only three versions? I started out on 2-point-something or other on a genuine IBM PC (not an XT) with the port for a tape recorder. When we upgraded to a hard disk (a massive 10MB full height unit) we had to have the BIOS upgraded! I still have that machine under the stairs. We then had 3.1, 3.11, 3.2, 3.3, 3.31 (Compaq DOS, a very nice small OS that supported large disks), 4.01 (hideous), 5.0, 6.21, and 6.22 I started on 2-point-something which was bundled with Aldus Pagemaker. I then installed the standalobe Windows 286. I briefly tried 3.0 and then ditched it until 3.1 came out. I never got to grips with 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups. I actually started on Win95 and then OSR2 with the USB etensions. Windows 98, expecially 98SE wasa favourite of mine for a long time. I never even tried the ugly beast called, selfishly, Windows ME. Very little experience of NT except for installing 2000 over it! XP, now that's the one. You must be joking. Best forgotten about. I HATE the way it tries to hide the hard disk from you. I really had to struggle to find My Computer so that I could transfer some files over the other day. Yeugh. Yeugh. Yeugh. Windows &. I hope it's as good as they say. I'll have to reserve judgement for the moment.
