Hi Guys,

It sounds like you all undestand more about these things than I do, sorry not a specailist in these things.

Presently I receive DSTV from IS/7, however do not receive all the channels, in early 2007 when we had the system installed we received all, but in early 2008 certain channels on certain frequencies deteriorated. From what I understand it becuase is that the satellite has deteriorated. Interestingly enough these channels started working for a week last week, weather had also changed over this period, maybe the reason.

It is a bit difficult with the local installers to change the setup as they are only used to systems related to Nilesat and the like, so I do not have a clue as what I sould request them to do. When I do get them out they play with the LNBF for hours and eventually all works, but this only lasts for a few hours.

I am using a Dragon decoder 3300, single LNBF and 1.8m dish.

I also have a configured DSTV PVR Decoder + matching card + Signal in Splitter which I broght out from South Africa, however it does not pick up any signals when doing a scan, maybe it is because it requires two LNB's or the signals in this part of the world is to weak for it?

I will appreciate any advise on installation or set up?

Thanks a lot much appreciated.

Peter

1) As you are in Syria its quite possible the lnb is failing - they dont last indefinitely in hot climates. They arent very expensive so think about replacing it.

2) From the Intelsat 10 C-band footprints it looks like 1.8m is marginal in Syria.

Hi Peter :)

Thanks for your report! Are you saying you receive Intelsat 7 Ku- band South Africa beam in KU band in Syria??? Would you please clarify this as it would be BIG NEWS.

Hi

Thanks for your info, much appreciated, I will get hold of the guys here and have them install a larger dish, plus a new LNB.

The other question is there better performance levels between different equipment manufactureres of LNB's and decoders, same as Mini vs. Ferrari?

just to confirm to all I am receiving C-Band from IS7/10

Thanks

Peter

Peter do you receive all frequencies from 68.5E C-Band without part time breakups ?

I'm asking because some people from Central Europe realised much worse signal than before. It might not effect at all your region.

A month ago (when my 2.4m mesh dish was alive), I had quite strong signal from this sat. Some transponders were so strong that I can guess, maybe 1.2m will be enough...

Now my 1.5m primefocus is C band lnb equipped, so this weekend I'll give it a try and re check.

Also, it should be noted very interesting thing, I've meet it on almost all C band reception cases, where signal is not strong enough.

LNB skew may cause some channels to appear, and some to disappear.

let's take 90E for example.

If I skew LNB in such way, that signal from 3954L will be the strongest one, 3645L will gone completely. If I tune signal to maximum to 3645L, then I'll loose 3675L. So I have to align my lnb according to signal on 3675L. Where it's perfect, both 3954L and 3645L are weaker about 10-15%, but they still work.

So if one has problem with particular transponder, he may try to tune to that TP, and then adjust LNB skew, to receive optimal signal from that TP.

The skew of course is an issue. This is why many DXers still miss Receivers that could not only control polarisers but could save for every frequency a certain value.

As for the situation at 68.5E reported by some DXers here in Central Europe of course all of them have played with skew but something must have changed. You might not see it but here we're fringe area.

Hi there,

C-Band has been problematic over here, certain frequencies have always worked, however 3863 dissapears for weeks and suddenly will returns for a few days, wich I think has something to do with the weather. I have not been able tp solve this one, this week I will have the guys install a bigger dish, plus two LNB's along with a receiver that has two LNB inputs.

Maybe this will work, will keep all informed of this one.

Cheers

Peter
cheers

here in athens greece i have many installations with 2.40 cm dishes for mcsa
the most important is the quality of the prime focus dish you have install
and the second important thing is the quality of the lnb you use.
take down any chinise unit and just throught such a piece os shit away.
buy a gardiner or california amplifier or other c band lnbs made in the usa.
be cerefule "made in usa" and not "disigned in usa" this is a chinise trick for their piece of shit.

Peter besides the bad quality of the reception chain fantom007gr mentioned, can you exclude a terrestrial interference issue ? In some towns Wimax more and more interferes in the C-Band frequency range. This is quite hard to solve and sometimes you just cannot.

fantom007gr, does a 2.40m in Athens always guarantee full reception of 68.5E C-Band under all weather conditions ?
Have you got experience also with other C-Band satellites ?

You need a C-band lnb. C-band is transitted at about a third the frequency of "normal" Ku band services

Hi fantom:)

Thank you for sharing your experience. Are 240cm tecatel and aris dishes one-piece or segmented? Are they Bulgarian, Chinese, Turkish?

How do I know if I have it?Is it written some where on the dish or the other equipment?Or I need a dish installer to tell me?
