Hi all

I am a humax 5400(can move dish still with this if required) owner and have just took the plunge and brought a dm800hd. I have installed gemini, cccam, bouquets no problem, I am stuck with the antenna settings, i am not sure if my diseqc motor is usals but in positioner settings the co-ordinate settings dont match with my location.....52.4784°N, 0.9055°W , the settings show 3 digits then dot then 3 digits for lat and long, so wont let me input my location! Even if i use normal antenna settings i still cant get anything, i know the dish is at thor.
Hope somebody can help please.
Many thanks

Hi, Make sure you select 'use USALs for this sat'. Might be relevant.

So the correct position entry is:

052.478 N

000.906 W (or -000.906, depending upon how the Receiver denominates Westerly longitude)

As there is no chance whatsoever of mechanical aligning a dish to the degree of precision (and maintaining it in that state through storms!), even three decimal places of precision is extravagant.

You could safely round up to one decimal place if you wish:

ie

052.5 N

000.9 W (or -000.9 )

It won't make any noticeable difference.

Ok in the tuner config when you select Simple & Positioner, you can see the entires for lat and long. The number is entered in minutes to 3 decimal places. So using your info from above I would enter 052.785 north.

Let me explain, your position is 52 minutes, 47 seconds north. 47 seconds is 0.783 of a minute. I rounded up to give 052.785

Good point - It isn't absolutely clear if the co-odinates given are already decimal ('cos that's how they are written!) or are misformatted minutes and seconds.

If the former, my figures apply.

If the latter, yours do, of course.

Let the OP decide ..............

lol yeah I see what you mean.

Thx tivu,
I have inputed those ok and usals is working, i am now doing auto scan.

Bonzer ............... keep us informed! :D

Ok, i have ftp channel settings but, i started on 1w watching bbc world news fine then change channel to bbc1 on astra, it moves dish but not to correct setting so i get nothing so then i go back to 1w bbc world, it moves dish but its slightly out, i know this as when i put antenna in humax the dish moves very slightly then its ok. Anyone know where i am going wrong.
Thanks

try adjusting your position settings slightly. It might be worth using google earth to check your position and enter the values it shows.

Yes, I agree ........... we weren't 100% certain about the format of the figures you quoted originally.

A little tinkering should sort you out.

One thing: Have you made sure your Longitude is shown as "W" (or "-") ?

It's not uncommon for folk to fail to ensure W/E is correctly input and of course this will make all the difference once you move away from your reference Satellite.

Yes, i have set longitute for w, and its for my location, like i say change channel-dish moves, but not to correct place. Am i best doing factory reset, then from setup select tuner - positioner- input my location then do full auto scan.
thanks for replies.-

Using google earth 52deg 28min 40.79 N......0deg 54min 19.21w

52 deg 28 min = 52.46

0 deg 54 min = 0.90

So that at least is ok.

As stated before, you don't need to worry much about greater precision, so I've ignored the seconds completely.

Not sure what you should do now - As your Dish tracked ok with the Humax (Didn't it ???), I think that leaves you with two options.

1. Assume the change of Receiver has in some way upset the Motor, so Reset it (If it is resettable: Motecks etc. have a small hole under the motor casing for insertion of a straightened out paper clip. If in doubt, consult your motor instruction leaflet. Only reset when dish is at reference, or it may move unexpectedly).

If that doesn't sort it out .................

2. Factory reset Receiver.

Still not right, here is an update....
set my moteck to 0 the did reset, factory reset receiver, set position in antenna menu to-
52deg 28min 40.79 N = 052.460
0deg 54min 19.21W = 000.900
I then upload channels via ftp dreambox edit, select itv on 29E, dish moves but no signal so i go into sat movement page and move dish slightly west and hey presto, strong signal so store as pos 1.
I go to another sat and the same again, so fine movement and store as 2 etc etc. Then if you go back to 29E the same happens so try to send dish to stored 1 pos, but now wont move! in fact none of the options when selected move the dish! but if you change channel to other sat then the dish moves but as before , just slightly out! Very strange.
Hope somebody can help, many thanks in advance.

Well ITV is at 28.2/28.5E, not 29E so that might be relevant ................

All I can think of now is that the Dish alignment is out a little: Can you check what happens on a small range of other Satellites scattered across the arc?

I suggest 30W, to see if you get a similar phenomenon to that at 28E : That might tell you if the mount/dish are incorrect in overall elevation

Also try something like 12.5W and 13E as they are more or less equally spread from reference, but to a lesser extent than 30W and 28E.

Can I just ask if when you used the Humax, were you actually using USALS, or were you using DiSEqC 1.2 ????

The reason I ask is that for the DM you mention USALS and coordinates, then in your last post you mention Position 1, Position 2 etc, which seems to me to be a confusion of modes.

Hi tivu
firstly, thankyou for the reply, sorry i meant 28.2e. my humax was using diseqc 1.2, so maybe this motor is not suitable for usals. So if i was going to set the antenna for advanced instead of single/position(usals), what settings would i need to implement the use of the motor and from then do the manual search?

For that you'll need to wait for a DM owner, I'm afraid!

DVB-S generics is as far as I can go, sadly.

Ok, thx but 1 final thing, what if i used usals still but changed my original usal position (000.900w) as the dish is just slightly west of all sats, what figures do i need to change to move dish more west?
thx
