hi all, after struggling with a feed on 8w and realising how far down you have to move the dish because of 8w inclination i thought of this ,im using a vbox as a positioner in between the receiver and a 1.2m cm mount/dish,i thought about removing the long inclination screw on the mount and replacing it with a 10inch jack arm and using another v box to controll this,i could have it set to move the incline jack only when im on 8w,now my questions are
1 would the 10 inch inclination jack move slowly enough to not be too cousre for the inclination(i already use a large resistor on my main v box to quieten the motor which slows it down as well)
2 would the jack be strong enough to hold the dish on the two bolts it would pivot on(anyone who knows the mount will know what i mean)will try to post pic later

any thoughts etc appreciated thanks iwols

Might be easier to try an over/under lnb configuration first which would give you coverage of much of the wobble arc.

cheers might be worth trying

I'm thinking of adding a elevation actuator to my 1224 motor, so will be interested to see how yours turns out.

just got to find a cheap jack arm for testing

I don't think there is enough on 8°w to make it worthwhile to add an elevation motor.

Simpler to do the maths and manuallly adjust the elevation bolt when you want to find a particular feed.

hi -- iwol
it will work just fine-- and gives very accurate adjustment if you can be bothered to spend the time doing it .
i did it on my 1.2 last autumn ---

hi -
not here on my p.c. but i,m working around home tomorrow - so i will take a pic and post it in the morning --- so you can see better what i did to couple the jack up --

cheers nelson.b .

ok some pics

on reflection i could have used a slightly thicker rod and a more heavy duty actuator -- but it was all i had to hand at the time --

slotted the threaded rod and welded in eye/ plates --

must replace the tape holding the actuator to the stand with some large cable ties --l.o.l.

its been in place since autumn , and has stood all the winter gales so it must be stronger than it looks :D

thanks for that nelson

One problem you may get is with the motor coming apart under heavy gusts as the worm drive is contantly in tension.

yes -- fair comment -- the tiny bearing in the actuator will be taking the strain -- --

yes this was one of my queries

there is a bit of play in the actuator shaft --
it "was" a used one though - and it is rather lightweight ,-- its been on the dish about 6 months now .

if you go ahead with it fit a decent - chunky one if you are in a windy location

i think i will upgrade mine to a stronger one -- sometime this summer -- its a handy feature to have --

i fitted a incline jack to my 1.8 channel master about 3 years ago -- but the arrangement is different -- i fastened a 4 foot piece of one and a half inch box section to the back of the mount -- and fastened a heavy duty jack between it and the cement ground / base - and added a large weight as counter balance -- to reduce weight/wear when in use -- this one is ok -- barely any play even after 3 years --

cheers nelson.b.

If you can drive the motor in compression mode (with a bracket on the lower part of the dish rather than the back of the polarmount) then the wormdrive will take all the force. A counterweight on a 1.2 wallmounted motorised dish would be novel though ;)

tried the up down lnb config on 8w but could not get any sigal would the lnb need to go above or below the original lnb for 8w plz

I found an unopened package in the loft yesterday which has been there since the the 90's (scary). Its called an Omnisat manufactured by IRTE.Its a combined H/H mount which has vertical adjustment.Never used it.It has the ability to store positions so when you move to a position not only to it go H/H it will also adjust the vertical position for the stored position. It was supposed to do away with the need to have your mount perfectly aligned in the days of analogue.Your query has got me going now and I think I will try it out.

Telecom2D at 8°w is above and below the standard elevation on roughly a 24 hour cycle. The deviation is changing over time and lyngsat is now saying the deviation is +/- 3.6°, when I was checking Telecom2D 8°w a few months ago it was +/- 3.4°.

I suggest you check n2yo.com for the actual elevation at any particular time.

The other problem is that this satellite is getting weaker and the footprint maps are out of date. I could only just get Telecom2D 8°w with my (spanner adjusted) 1.2 dish a few months ago.
