My Satellite Setup
2x Pace 2600 C1 (in a box just in case) , 3 x Humax HD Foxstat (2 of which in store as spares) . 3x Manhatten Plaza - Pasat 2.4 PF dish mounted on flat roof with Invacom C120 quad LNB .
My Location
Massanassa, Valencia, Spain
Having had no problems with my setup here in Valencia since the summer I was alarmed when earlier today when the signal to my Humax freesat box seemed to be slowly dropping. At first it was only the horozontals which seemed to be affected then the weak verticals and finally the strong Sky stuff as well. After a few minutes nothing - no signal at all - I was gutted but quickly went upstairs to my trusty old Pace 2600 to see that Tiny Pop which my 4 year old had been watching from her sick bed was still working - but then horror even that stalled broke up and finally disappeared altogether. No signal at all. I raced to the roof to see if something had happened to the 2.4M dish - had something fallen onto it? - an item of washing perhaps? but it looked fine. Checked connections - all fine - but then noticed that the shadow of the LNB was exactly at the centre of the dish - in other words the sun was in a direct line with the satallite and the centre of my dish. Rushed downstairs again to see what would happen as the sun moved round and after a few minutes more the signal gradually came back, first the strength then the quality until a few mins later full nomallity had been restored. Phew - never seen that before but it did make the pulse race for a few moments... but how often can that actually happen?

It happens twice a year around the equinoxes. To a greater or lesser extent its 7-10 days or so.

Its known as the sun outage season - there are online calculators available to tell you when its going to happen, and with a bit of forward planning you can follow it around the arc :D
