hi folks, I'm new on here so please forgive me a simple question.
I currently have a sky plus on one dish and next to it a budget screwfix labgear free to air kit running seperatly along side it, sky on av1 and the labgear on av2 pointing at 19e, simple I know but it runs fine.
Now the good bit, I have just brought a humax foxsat hd to replace the labgear thinking I could swap it like for like, a quick scan and jobs a good un!.
this is not the case though, after reading one thing on one forum and another on another I am now a little muddled!
All I require at the moment is for the humax to receive 19e, so far I have taken a feed from the sky plugged it in and because its coming from the sky sat I have got all the freesat channels on it (thus confirming the humax is working correctly) then when I disconnect the coax from the working labgear (confirms the 19e dish is working correctly) and plug it in it is saying it cannot see the antenna/dish. I have read that by pressing the coloured buttons in a certain order can access another set up menu.
The thing is as a clueless novice I am a little unsure what to do, as I don't want to risk altering things on the Humax and recking it, if the thing will only receive freesat?????
So any help you folks could give would be greatly received , thanks in advance.
 
The humax receiver will work with other satellite positions by going into a non freesat mode.

A few members on here have one and can talk you through accessing the menu and anything else your unsure about.

wod is correct, but it's a little more complicated .............

In order to permit access to the other Satellites, you must first carry out a "Manual Tune" on 28E.

This will enable non-Freesat mode to be selected in the main menu. You don't need to actually store the scan results from 28E, but might as well retain Sky News.

A truly cumbersome box is the Foxsat or use on other satellites, I've done it a few times and always managed to get it working eventually just by fiddling ans sticking the coloured key combination in a few times.
 
Agreed - I have both Foxsat and Foxsat HDR and they do the job just fine ........................... eventually!

We all forget they are actually supposed to be high-level black boxes for 28E and the legacy of other similar products they are derived from gives us a bonus in having multi-sat capability, however unwieldy it may be.
 
cheers folks, I have now got the thing to receive from 19e but it has'nt found some of the channels I had on the old system, pro seiben, sat1 etc. I have scanned and scanned with no joy, the signal and quality strength are 100%..... ?????? so I'll stop now and will have another go tomorrow
 
That's because the Transponder lists are wildly out of date.

Two things you can do:

1. Select Network Scan - This should find and store many more valid TPs

2. Laboriously correlate the lists against up to date ones on lyngsat, flysat etc and add any missing ones (If you select on the TP option at the top of the page and then scroll up you will find User TP right after the last pre-stored TP. f course, you could scroll down, but it takes longer.
 
Look up which transponders are needed, make sure that the receiver has them listed.
 
Here in France I am also using the Humax TN 5050 hdr This receiver is a better multisat receiver than the Foxsat and has all the TNTSAT channels available .It does not have Freesat Capability however so Recording is not as simple as with the Foxsat.Curiously although available in France as a TNTbox the ability to use the program guide as an aid to setting up Recording requires a full subscription to Canalsatellite before it can be obtained . But you can receive and record programs from two different satellites simultaneously.
 
well here was me thinking 5 mins and all set up, but then again I'm starting to enjoy learning all about settings and what they do, and getting more and more channels with every bit of info you guys are giving me, this could well turn into great new hobby :-righton
 
That's the spirit - believe me if you can get a Foxsat to do what you wish on multi-satellite, you will have no trouble at all with a pukka DVB S generic Receiver.
 
As I mentioned early on, I have both PVR and non-PVR versions of the Foxsat.

One of them controls a motorised dish and a spare feed from the LNB on that dish also goes, along with a 28E feed to the other box.

For use off-28E, I ensure they both have identical and severely edited Channel lists. No carp.

For carp, I use a more flexible box on another system entirely!
 
I think I may have found the problem ?? the signal strength and quality are both at 100% when in the lower transponder range i.e 10921H 22000a on Astra 1 19.2E, but when it gets to 12070 the quality bar drops to 80 then as I scroll up through the transponder setting in the menu the quality drops further then at 12460 both lines drop to 0% does this mean that the dish is not quite alligned ?

Well it could mean that your DECT phone base station is swamping these signals as this is quite common. Worth checking by switching off the base station completely

DECT Frequencies are 1880 to 1900 MHz

Hi band problems:-

12480 to 12500 MHz (10600 MHz LO) IF is 1880 to 1900 MHz

Lo band problems:-

11630 to 11650 MHz (9750 MHz LO) IF is 1880 to 1900 MHz
 
just tried unplugging it, and no difference at all the dect is about 2 ft from receiver though

Did you move the base station and phone away at all as I would certainly move it as they are notorious for causing channel drop out through radiating interference
