Or test It in a strong TP...just to compare.

I tried the meter on my small Astra2 dish this morning. The signal readings were steady as a rock, albeit on a strong transponder (see image). I'd imagine that on any 'fringe' transponder the readings would fluctuate by the percentage you mentioned.

Thanks sonnetpete, please tell me the firmware you are using in orden to downgrade.

Thanks again

It says "H/W version V1.1.0 25/07/17" and "S/W Version V3.02.105.596 14/08/2017"

I really don't know about altering the default transponder but if you select a satellite, then push 'back' you can select a transponder from a list...

Probably best to choose the strongest transponder & channel (and delete the others) on each Sat from William-1's latest list and programme them in if they are not already installed - that way you might stand less chance of selecting the "wrong" channel to look for on each Sat.

All this stuff prompted me to dig and try to resuscitate the Satlink 6906 I bought last year, but never really got the hang of - and I also remembered that people complained of the screen reflections issues, which is true for both meters.

I think the "solution" might be a tinted phone screen protector (the screen is about 3.5" across the diagonal), or a camera LCD display "collapsible screen shade" and so I've just ordered one of these from China for £2.99 - it's not quite large enough to cover the meter screen, but probably good enough to see most of what is needed.

The meter does have one of those inbuilt 'shades' in the soft case, however I've never been able to get it to work in a way that's effective. TBH, I don't have many issues seeing the screen. If I'm checking the dishes in full sunlight I can usually position my body in such a way as to cast a shadow over the screen. Maybe that's more of comment about my size.......too much gourmet dining eventually takes a toll....

@pete

Those folding screen shields, although a bit fragile (!) do work pretty well.

Oooo! Just bought one too. I use the same V8 model but the whole unwinding the power cord to the dish, getting out the portable TV is a pain in the arse! This is brilliant. Thanks for posting about it.

I also love how it has HDMI out, so if you run out of receivers you can use it too. :D

My Satfinder V8 gave up, had on my desk and it froze up. Turned it off after several attempts but it still it would not respond. Overseer sent it back and had a refund as soon as proof of posting went into Amazons system. Was a looking at Dr HD but at £200+ I wasn't prepared to spend that much.

Yes, I'd looked at that before (as I have a Dr HD receiver) but also discounted it because of the cost. If you include a spectrum analyser it seems the price increases a lot.. Sorry that the V8 gave up on you...

Arrived today. Nice bit of kit. Going to make a wee laminated cheat sheet for the various satellites and the most powerful signals that can slip inside the meter cover.

Not to bad on Fleabay listed as Profi Satfinder HD 1000s. £213. Amazon do it about the same but less postage.

If I were tinkering about with the dishes more often I'd possibly find an excuse for the extra outlay. However, as I'm mainly using the multi sat I can't justify the need for a more expensive meter......besides, that would stop me affording the next gourmet meal...:lol:

My cheap screenshade arrived today, and I have just fitted it - as per the photos below. You do have to be careful where you position it, and there is a little bit of "cropping" of the display, but I think I can live with that

PS: should you want to do the same, this is what I bought from China - cost £2.99 and took 2-3 weeks to arrive.

It looks very effective, however I always use the meter in it's case and I don't think the shade would fit...

Is the black colour meter a newer/ older model than the yellow/blue one? V8 finder I mean.

I think it may be a DVB S meter, much like my old one...

No, the meter is a Satlink WS6906 - which uses exactly the same case (even a has an unused knock-out for the HMDI connector) but is entirely different inside.

Good point/question, so I have just tried the meter & fitted sunshield in the case and it "just" fits - but of course you can't then open the shield because it is behind the plastic window! However, that being the situation I think I (you?) would be able to open the shield if the window were removed (and maybe a little bit trimmed off the lower edge of the case material above where the window once was). Might try that because I generally don't use the meter in the case, and so there would be "nothing lost" for me.
