What does it mean when somebody writes (sic) in the middle of a sentence?

Ther is a spelling or gramatical error in the previous sentence. Its a latin word:

I think it means that that you are accurately quoting someone or something including any spelling mistakes or errors.

What does it mean when somebody writes (sic) in the middle of a sentence?

I interpret it to mean "stupid but true" either a grammatic mistake or something written that doesn't make sense (but you get the idea of what they mean).

Often used in The Guardian newspaper - which is probably where I picked it up. Journos there often insert (sic) into direct quotes of stupid people, like GWBush.

I quite often insert a "sic" into my own posts - because I cannot convey what I am trying to say and/or my dislexia gets in the way, LOL (sic). Dyslexia with a 'y' ;)
