Where Should My Dish Be Sited?

My Satellite Setup
Master Focus 90cm .Gigablue UHD Quad 4K on TM 2600 motor. *Tm 5402 HD M3, *Atemio Nemesis. *Not Used.
My Location
Southern England
I have the new motor, elevation plate and safety wire all ready to refit my Fibo 90. If I place it level with the gable end which faces the 23 east I can only go as far as the 40 west satellite. If I place it above the gable end about a metre higher I can go as far west as the motor allows. Better to keep it lower and more protected from the wind or is there anything gained by going higher? All together now. Higher or Lower.....:rolleyes:
 
The higher the better in my opinion, less RF ground clutter to pick up when looking at those low to the horizon birds.
 
Keep it low. There's very little of interest beyond 30W, so you'd be better off reducing exposure to inclemency.

Thanks. Yes a poll would give some more insight into what can be received and if its worth the risk of going higher.

For amateurs,the antenna is better placed Low for safety (and if you want,for aesthetic reasons),because the dth signal is anyway better,and for dxers,the lower elevation,the Higher,(the better),because they are interested in extremes/fringe reception,the satellites at the end of the arch,if they want to avoid physical obstacles and earth noise.

Interesting. 2 to 1 in favour of down low.
 
To get the arc high is best, to clear trees and buildings, but you've got to be practical ! ease of access is important if its low you can play with the dish easily, and when its windy you dont have to worry about it falling of the house.
 
My Dishes are only 4 feet from the ground giving me an arc of 53E to 50W

Once upon a time there were some interesting Ku band feeds past 30 west but sadly that is no longer so due to the rise in Marine Data streams here now,

So keep your dish as low as possible most of the interesting Ku band activity is between 53 east & 36 west with a 100cm dish,
For C band there is a bit more activity to the west 49 east to 58 west with at least a 150cm dish,

I know of a few folk with a dish set too high (High Rise Block) if you are within line of sight of ground base micro wave links this will give you a problem.
 
My problems with the dish set too low to the ground is that the Cows will eat the LNB's and coax.

Drunk people using sit on lawnmowers has been my bugbear with ground installations, along with rodents gnawing underground
 
I use metal conduit underground and always drive my tractor before the party starts.
 
I took the Fibo 90 down from the roof today, Heeded the advice from in here and I am placing it a few feet lower. Just waiting for the new elevation bracket to arrive this week, Ebay 172609579928. Also going touch up the paint, fit some stainless steel support arms to the lnb reflector as the holes are already there. Then its back on the roof, fit a safety stainless steel cable from the dish to the gable end. That will stop my neighbour worrying every time its get very windy. I am hoping to get better reception as I know the setup was out on the elevation due to it being difficult to adjust as it was. Then i will be pondering on getting a big dish for C band.........Musn't get bored, it gets me into trouble......ask the Overseer. :-ohmy
