hey guys, picking up my 1.8 on Sat - can someone give me a rough idea of what to expect ARC wise using a 18inch actuator (non heavy duty) - will i need a 24" heavy duty one?

53e to 30w is my usual ARC range on my 1.2m....what would 18" get me on a 1.8m

Think of an imaginary triangle in the plane of the two actuator fixing points and the rotational axis point and measure the three distances
You can use an online scalene triangle calculator to see how the arc degree changes with distance changes of the triangle side equivalent to the actuator arm.
 
If the polarmount is designed appropriately (as mentioned - ephasize on the mounting points), you can count on some 110 degrees in the arc.
For more you definitely need 24", I achieved 141 degrees with it on a 180 cm aluminium antena..

If you need a 24" actuator I have a repaired Geotrack actuator 'ere doing nowt.
You can buy it for small wad, or at least small wad by my pricing.

Be prepared to extend your arc for when you start to get into C-Band.
There is juice out west on 40.5W, 47.5W, 55.5W and 58W. If you can get line of sight to 65W there is also C-Band juice on that one.

Probably a difficult catch but there is a challenge to be had with 43.1W, it is not an easy catch in the UK but is achievable.

You may need a bigger dish, a 1.8 may be a bit too small for "C" band, it all depends on your location and the satellites you can see from your location.

I have a 3 meter dish setup for both "C" and "Ku" band, works fine from 180W to 55W on both bands. I use a dual band LNB that uses a 22 KHz tone to switch between bands.

Cheapo twin probe Chinese C-Band LNBF will do for starters, get one for a tenner from Ali Express.
I would avoid them C/Ku combi LNBF's, performance has been reported as suffering on one band from what I have read.

If you wanna go for a more expensive twin probe LNBF then Titanium Satellite sell a few models, some with filters to reduce 5G/WiFi interference.
If you wanna go reet top end then get a C-Band orthomode and stick a pair of Norsat 3120 LNB's on it.

A 1.8m dish correctly aligned should be getting close to 200 channels from 40.5W and getting some locks from a lot of the C-Band satellites visible to a UK installation.

I have no problems with my combo C/Ku band LNB, it performs as good as an Invacom on Ku band, in fact it out performs my 1 meter dish with the Invacom on it.

Well I would hope it out performs the 1 metre dish if its on a 3 metre dish! I have used the combos on a 1.8 and they perform poorly on Ku on account that the dielectric slab required for C Band here in Europe kills the Ku signal, most C Band sats in the US I believe are linear.

I have tried 3 types of lnb C band
the best is the Solid, first I had the panorama then the supermax, now the solid gives me about 1 db of improvement, but not 1 db of power but of mer, test done with a field meter
also has the band extended to 4.8 ghz, I have installed 3 on my laminas 180 system, made to arrive from india, it took a month to arrive but they arrived, the cost is popular, 40% was shipping and customs
you could try 65 west

I have tried a few times to obtain one of the 'Strong' Extended Cband lnbf's for experimenting with from the Indian supplier outlets but they never return communication - have you a supplier link to share with us @anto, thanks.
