Help Required Actuator without reed switch

I bought a new actuator that had been stored for a long time and I had a surprise when I opened it to make the connections to the positioner, instead of a reed switch sensor it has a 3-wire potentiometer ( blue circular piece). I have already tried all the combinations with the 2 positioner wires but without success, the actuator only gives one impulse and stops with err2 in the positioner.
The manual has the diagram for making the different connections but I'm not an expert in electronics, if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

I am not aware of any boxes that take potentiometers for position tracking.

Easier to fabricate something to attach a magnetic wheel and a reed switch. Or get a new jack.
 
Potentiometer controllers were a major thing in the 80s. There are howver many private projects dealing with the improved accuracy of a known value based on end limits that don't suffer from pulse count error.

Look at some of the Arduino forums..
 
I suppose you could have a simple Arduino based converter... take analogue inputs and convert that into pulses. But that's a hassle.

I suspect the accuracy wanes with age given the graphite material wears down as time and use goes on. Easy to replace though.
 
I have some broken actuators around here that I can use as parts to replace potentiometer with a reed switch, but I don't think it will be very easy.

As far as I understand, it is not possible to control the potentiometer only with the positioner, right?
