Adding 26E on CM180 focused on 28.2E?

Hello,

I've just gained an interest in BADR4 BSS, and thinking that I might be able to grab that with my CM180 pointing at 28.2E. I know that Huevos have done this on a 1.5M dish, but has anyone any experience with multisat on an Channel Master/Andrew/ASC/Raven/Skyware Type 180 (Rx only)?
 
Tried it on a non CM 1.2m dish once, didn't work too well, had 26E at the focus. But on the 1.8, you could be OK, why not go and get a cheap single LNB, hold it alongside the 28E LNB, and see what you get.
 
Good idea. Will do that tonight. (I have an Invacom lying around somewhere that would do the trick.)

The only "problem" with the CMs as I can see it is that the support arms for the feed is just where you'd place the LNB with just a 2 degree spacing from the centre. Anyway, we shall see.
 
Yes, that is a bit of a problem, I noticed that on a 1.8m CM I fitted. I would imagine that you could get round that though by making a new support arm. Possibly you could use a bit of wood or something wedged into the ground to hold the existing LNB in place, if you needed to remove one arm for testing.
 
Tried the hand-held LNB thing earlier with an Invacom Single. That was no success.
The support arms are in the way of everything. Never found BADR4. 8-(

Holding the LNB just next to the existing LNB produced nothing but background.
The closes signal with any C/N enough to decode was 23.5E.
Strangely enough, the only way I could get a decodable signal from that was when holding the Invacom *behind* and slightly to the right of the Black Ultra. This seemed about 15 cm behind the focal point of the dish :confused:
Also, the signal strenght got stronger when not pointing to the centre of the dish, but rather a little right of the centre.

But seriously, this behaviour is probably not surprising - with a strong signal, you can use any part of a paraboloid a an approximate reflector, so waving an LNB in front of a 180 cm dish will produce this sort of result. Catching a weak TP of a Sat very close to other strong sats require mechanical adjustment means, at least when my hand-held technique for LNBs are still a bit rough...

SO, I dug out the Triax 64, just to see IF there was, you know, even a whiff of a satellite between 23.5E and 28.2E...

There wasn't. It was like a big signal soup, with 10 dbuV more than background all the way between the two, and a cross over between "Sky HD" and "Astra 3D channel" showing on the meter.
Not surprising - the beam-width of the Triax combined with the weak signal from BADR4 means a no go.

I'll ponder whether to produce a new set of DIY support arms and a multi-LNB support bracket for the CM.
