ADS-B / Flightradar 24 setup

I broke my record for the number of aircraft tracked this afternoon - 18 is the new benchmark. Ive also built a new supposedly better tuned antenna from a tip by one of the lads on the 360Radar group which needs to go up at some point soon.

With the amp Im now tracking Aberdeen to Southport at the highest flight routes which is phenomenal seeing as Ive got hills all around. :D

16 segment antenna swapped for a "tuned" 8 segment. Its not looking promising, although seeing as its almost dark here now it wont get swapped back today.

Yup. Ive changed them over again - I found my headtorch! :D

I discovered the screw thread of the f-connector had snapped off at the bottom of the tuned 8 segment so I shall investigate that antenna again over the xmas holidays or one weekend once I can be bothered to fix it & get the ladders out again

My computer crashed last night and wiped all the splat diagrams. After I set it up again Ive had this mega trace appear today. The range is about 275 miles and is by far the furthest trace Ive had!

Yup - although I suspect thats an atmospheric freak condition playing more of a part atm as high pressure builds from the west. To be honest Ive not seen much improvement over my mega 16 element construction.

Sadly the 275 mile track wasnt anything as interesting as a freak reception - it was just a Virgin 747 (G-VROM) transmitting an incorrect location as it went over SW Scotland!

Ive reset my splat maps to remove it & they are slowly building up again.

Update - Ive just seen 26 aircraft on my VRS. Not a lot for you guys down south I know but its 8 or 9 higher than Ive seen before :D Sadly the number had dropped a bit by the time I managed a screen grab. So to celebrate heres the latest coverage area splat map.

Something a bit unusual over the Berwickshire coast heading north east

Storm Ophelia is affecting the approach patterns to Edinburgh - the local flights are stacking over the western Borders then flying up to the Firth of Forth so they can land directlyinto the wind from the southwest. I havent seen this very often.

The lighter inner splat is the up to 9999ft flight coverage.

Problem with FR24 and VR, lost port connection for some reason, so no feed from me into our web ring at the mo. Apologies.

Sorted now, hopefully.

Installed FR24 on a Pi and it says its activated, but I cannot seem to figure out how to get the Free Business Subscription, or see whats being uploaded.

If I look at the DUMP1090 page on my Pi I can see planes on there, so it is working.

Logged in and out and seems to be working now on Business, my Radar is T-EGFF93 if anyone is interested.

Ive moved the antenna from the side of the house to the side of the garage - Ive gained about 50 miles range out towards the north west where the house was blocking the signals. Ive also had to replace the cables as I found the main coax had chafed through where it had been rubbing....
