adsl broadband issues

has anyone else had interference on there broadband over a land line ?

what did you do to resolve it ?

its starting to do my head in, I have adsl2+ broadband with Be and over the last few months since march it will work fine for hours and then just randomly disconnect.

i've been told it due to the frequencies used for broadband they are more prone to interference from electrical equipment even street lighting.

already had an openreach engineer out which fitted a new master socket and checked the line/wiring, he said it was fine.

ruled out equipment nearby router causing the issue.

cant think of what else it can be.

only option is over land line phone, cant get virgin otherwise would have swapped over.

well lucky to get such quick internet as there is still people who cant get above 2mbps

lets blame the government for stopping bt install fibre back in the day

have you tried the simple things like filters they do cause problems and bt engineers always overlook them , because anything after the line box is ignored, other than your line it can only be , filter ,router ,network card

Usually it's a poor-quality or aged phone line that can be at fault causing a poor quality signal, in which case it's BT's side of the line that needs fixing...

Getting them to do it though is another matter, and they'll probably charge for any replaced line(s)...

I too have been suffering since they switched me to the higher speeds earlier in the year. In combination with my BT hub V1 it was a disaster, I too got an engineer sent who could find no fault so changed me to a type V2 hub but I still drop out at least once per day so wod you are not alone

Disconnecting the ring wire sometimes helps (if it's still in situ). It can pick up interference and transmit to your other wiring, especially if you have a long run to your router.

The BT accelerator box takes care of that automatically so I have been lead to believe Llew

I am getting 6.8 Mb so am not too unhappy

Lucky you. I rarely get above 2Mb as I'm the last but one sub on the end of a long journey to my local exchange. Roll on fibre.

I've checked for that ring wire but its not present only 2 wires going to master socket, then I have the bt filtered plate on the front with 2 sockets for broadband & telephone.

I'm not far from the exchange so I get very good speed when it works, as I'm on Be LLU service using there own equipment in the exchange.

the UK is just so far behind places like Japan where they can easily get 100mbps connections.

I suffered drop out, unduly slow speeds and even failure to initialise at all until recently, when I snipped Pin 3 at my Master Socket's Extension Wiring block.

As Topper says, BT Accelerator (iPlate) does this without the need for snipping, but it does cost five or six quid while the snip is quick, easy, painless and free.

My connection is now rock steady and my speed is double what is was.

Was around 400 kbps, now around 800.

I also found, in the early days of Broadband here in the village, that the noisiest contributors to local interference were CRT TVs and some Satellite Receivers. I even had to ensure my Sky Box was powered down in order to get the ADSL to work.

So go around the house turning all electronic kit off, see if the ADSL problem is abated, then logically establish the culprit(s).

here the quality of phone lines also very bad around 35 years old,the reduce the speed from 6 mbit to 4 mbit,since that i have no disconect,i recogneized that cisco routers handle,better over long cable lines,away from the phone center
4 km and more is cirtical,espasly on alcatel speedtouch when was lighting outside or sometimes raining,disconection begin,now everythink okay,since speed is lower..!

I've done the quiet line test by dialing 17070 option 2 on a analogue corded phone in the test socket. I could hear some noise but re tried the test 10minutes later and it had gone

I'm just running my router next to the master socket with a shorter cable at the moment, I suspect the 10metre rj11 cable might be causing the issue but his is a new one I bought to replace a faulty one.

shouldn't be a need for the ring wire any more if people have the newer bt master socket.

BT are rolling out infinity at the moment in many areas taking fiber to the street cabs so giving between 20 to 40 meg speeds from cab through copper to home so this could cause lots of probs until complete.

Not here in Cambridge it won't. Not on any of the rollout phases. Silicon Fen? High Tec city indeed. maybe BT are worried too many people will want it.

The one thing I love about having cable DSL over Phoneline ADSL is that it's much more reliable than ADSL, as the signals on ADSL are running over two wires, unlike the 1 wire for cable, they have to balance them so that the signal isn't cancelled out by itself, but that balance is pretty weak because as you know, the further from the exchange, the slower it gets, it's basically the broadband cancelling itself out, so ADSL is always slower than the quoted "Up to" speeds...

Cable DSL on the other hand works much like the old coaxial networking that used to be the norm for computer networks before the advent of RJ45 based networking, one cable gets split into several cables, and the signal travels up and down the same wire (with the Send and Receive signals alternated), and the interference is minimal being shielded cables, like those used for satellite TV, which makes DSL a stronger contender, the only problem with it is that it's only available in cabled areas...

If you have access to cable, go for DSL, you don't need to take up a TV package so it's just phone and broadband, and you can have your existing number ported over to them, so there's no real disruption...

You don't even need to have the phone.

My younger daughter is moviong into a flat in Glasgow for the next year or two and is looking into sharing a broadband connection with her flatmates. They don't want a phone (because they've all got mobiles) and so are looking at just broadband over cable.

It feels extremely strange to be discussing "cable"!

Yes my daughter is in the same position, sharing a house with 4 other girls and they have VM no phoneline, although there is a socket for the phone. As it is already there it is not worth the investment of a BT installation to open up other possibilities.... yet another trick that BT are missing. There is a mass market available for them but they have to look at the long game and make free installation to get a future return or they will always lose out

here you can have cable internet,without paying for cable tv,the install a special freqency filter.all freqencys,above the internet back channel over 47 mhz will be blocked
cable internet here has 22mbit,is even more expensice with 60€ month,then 8 mbit dsl line,with only 15€/,month

for you lucky peeps who have cable, i have non so have to make do with BT and a slow 1meg until september when they connect infinity with upto 20 meg which is a lot better than i have at the moment, all i want is 2 meg+ for streaming

well my issue has been continuing with no look of being resolved but this time the problem is worse, whenever I answer a phone call my internet drops the connection until I finish the phone call.

i've called Be and they run more tests and now says my line has got a high open issue, which is a case of interference between the voice and the broadband signals.

I see bt has installed fibre cabinets on my street but I'm not changing to infinity I had worse issue with bt than I have got at the moment.
