The cable is a bit oval shaped, maybe this is why the adapter won't fit on.

This is the product I bought from Maplin - Maplin Metal Twist On F Plug CT125 | maplin
The cable/dielectric shouldn't be oval. It's quite tough and that looks like it was cut with a blunt pair of snips. A stanley knife would be better.

Also is that just plain WF125. From the picture it looks like underground stuff, the sheath looks thicker and harder.
What's the code on the side printed on the side? If so you will need the correct F types for that cable, screw types won't work either.

Try a stanley knife :)

That was just a spare bit of cable left over, I've been using it to experiment on rather than using the real thing and yes it probably was cut with a pair of scissors. I'll see the hairdryer treatment works tomorrow.

Yep theres every chance it could be the underground variant. On the side of the cable it says "WEBRO 125 CA1 0020 F 01-10 018119". I've got not idea where I would get the adapters from.

It's not the underground type, but its the Polyethylene version.

but its the Polyethylene version.

Is that good or bad, I thought the job of the Polyethylene was to keep out moisture to stop the copper from corroding

Yeah it's good but might be thicker than plain WF125, Does it feel hard like plastic and hard to cut or does it feel like normal coax?

Won't work with normal connectors then, definitely not screw ons.
Do you have a caliper there you can measure it with?
You said this is a bit you are messing around with, that length you are getting off your friend is that the same type?

Yep the solution would be to buy an F-Type connector roughly about the thickness of a fingernail bigger. But I don't think this exists. Im still going ahead with the purchase of the link @aceb sent across praying it will fit when it arrives.

Screw on F Types won't work with that material, You will have to use compression fit.

The underground/direct burial WF125 is your cable, but with an extra green outer, so it won't be that. The standard WF100 is PE and as a rule Cablecon connectors will fit it well, either crimp or compression.

There is a cheap screw on connector for WF125, it is designed to screw on and then be crimped, not sure who sells them though, as I've only seen them when doing an installation for a customer who supplied his own.

The standard WF125/WF100 has a PVC sheath, the PE sheath stuff will not work with screw ons, it's like hard plastic.
They all have a PE Dielectric however.

Certainly standard WF100 is PVC, but I've not seen WF125 in anything other than PE.

The screw on crimp connectors do work on the PE outer, the thread is very light, just enough to hold the connector whilst crimping.

What WF125 did you get though. PVC like normal coax or PE which is stiff hard plastic?

Screw on F connectors for PE outer CT125RBS, Prosignal PSG01821. Never had one fail on my three runs of it and they come with an additional centre pin for their intended use of RG213 so if you're bothered by the impedance mismatch (connectors are supposedly 50ohm) then don't use them.
