Hi i wonder if anyone could help me i have just brought a goodmans320gb/500gb freesat+hd digital tv recorder i have set it up to my tv.
Can you tell me if i can put sky channels through it as i'm still subscribed to sky such as sports many thanks.

Welcome to the forum Mark.

Freesat is just that, free to air programming only. If you want to view sky subscription channels, for the purpose of keeping it simple, you'll need to keep the dedicated sky receiver.

Thanks for your quick response i'm a bit behind on technology so does this mean i can run a cable to the freesat and one to the sky box as well of the same dish. cheers

Yes, assuming you have available ports on the dish/LNb. You mention freesat+ so two feeds required as it has a twin DVB-S2 tuner (if you want to make use of pvr functions that is).

Hello. I just joined this forum myself and still need to discover how to post a new thread. However my question relates to the current topic.
I have an LG HD TV receiving digital freeview channels and attached is a standard sky box for satellite. I was thinking of an HD TV recorder instead of upgrading my skybox to Sky + to record programmes. Does it make sense and is it possible to record digital TV when such a box is attached to my LG TV? Also would I be able to record programmes from the sky box ?
There is an LGDRT389H 1080P Up-Scaling Digital TV / DVD Recorder on Play.com for 80 quid which I though might do the job.
Any advice much appreciated..
Cheers. KF

The LGDRT389H is not an HD recorder as such. It records in standard definition and then upscales the ouput if you use the HDMI output.

_http://www.trustedreviews.com/home-cinema/review/2008/10/15/LG-DRT389H-DVD-Recorder/p1 gives a review and in it notice that they say that they copy some of the recordings off their $ly HD box via the scart lead. This means that it is only in SD.

Thanks Paul.. So, would a HD recorder hook onto my LG TV to record TV programmes instead of going for Sky+ or Sky HD?

Most unlikely. The only way that there seems to be able to record HD easily is by using the component output of some HD receivers. Early $ly HD boxes had component but current ones don't.

HDMI is the most common way of transferring HD signals but there is normally a flag set in the signal that stops external devices from recording from an HD receiver.

Just rereading your first post you don't seem to have an HD source, just an HD ready TV. So possibly everything that's been said so far has been irrelevant!
