Amos reception

A warped dish will certainly affect signal.
 
Have a look here if you want to tackle the warping.

Perhaps it would be easier to get a new Gibertini 1.5m with polar mount and an Inverto Black Ultra LNB? You could also spray it with plastikote paint if it would make SWMBO happier.
 
Hi all,
I cracked it! Having read you posts about declination I read more about satellite positions and setups etc and realised that I was initially setting up the centre of the arc about 5 degrees off to the east. Once I understood the importance of the 'arc' rather than simply east/west movements I centered my dish properly, added a wooden wedge to stop the dish blowing in the wind and now I have a top notch signal right across the arc! (except Nile - but I'll try that again another time)

My TD110 gains minor corrections by the use of plywood strips wedged under various corners of the patio mount base slab.

It's a great engineering technique!

The polarmount you are using has no adjustment for declination, and so you will probably never get it to track correctly.

However since you are peaking it on the satellite it would be worth taking a couple of pictures of the front end, just in case the low signal is caused by feed issues

And you might as well check the dish edge for warpage, the rim looks like its been in the wars and with the polarmount bolted straight onto the back, the feed would not be working as well as it could be.

Thanks for the advice but I think you missed the bit where I said I've got it tracking correctly now. Somebody pointed out that parts of the mount are different lengths which appears to be giving the declination.

I will pay some attention to the edges some time but at the minute I'm getting over 80% quality on all the channels we need so for now it's on the back burner

Have you tried the Inverto Black Ultra LNB yet? It can be bought from Sat Europa and Southern Satellites now. It will bring great improvements. O-Ha
 
Well, the fixed declination can't be too far off for location but for best results an adjustment would be needed.
