As far back as 2008, analysts have been predicting the launch of an Apple TV, which would be a networked HDTV or an Apple TV set-top box. The idea was that the TV would let viewers rent and but movies and TV shows via the iTunes store. Some predicted that the Smart TV would feature Internet connectivity, gaming, apps, and PVR functionality.

Now, AppleInsider and Global Equities Research analyst, Trip Chowdhry is revealing more on the matter. According to Chowdhry, Apple is gearing up to launch their TV in March 2012. The company is planning to have HDTV sets with three different screen sizes, which will correspond to three different pricing brackets. Each TV will be based on the Bose Videowave 46-inch LCD HDTV, and will have minimal cables, either one of three. The 46-inch version will include an integrated surround sound speaker unit, totaling 16 speakers.

“These 16 built-in speakers gives a complete surround sound experience, without the need for any external speakers,” said Chowdhry. “The DSP chip in Apple HDTV is a brand new chip based on Apple's acquisition of PA Semi. As of now, this new chip is not in mass production.”

Though there has been no official news from Apple itself, many are anticipating the TV. In the meantime, Apple junkies will be happy to know that the new generation iPhone5 and iPad2 are on their way to the market.
