the US cant take threats like that lightly and have to put measures in place for counter attacks, and when dealing with a dictator you have got to take him serious.

Ah, so the US is sending a satellite over to make the North koreans braindead with as much US TV as possible so they'll forget how to use a lighter to fire their roman candles in the US' direction...

dictators are brain dead/brain washed :-(, i cant think of a better reason why this bird is heading this way in a hurry, and what powers north korea have maybe they have more than they let on, this could get very naughty, but lets hope not.

Gentlemen, I have removed a considerable number of Posts that went really too far beyond either the Topic or related light-hearted banter. Please do not be offended - but this is a public part off the Forum with a world-wide reach and others may well not share some of the views expressed. Plenty of other more appropriate places to discuss such matters.

Well technically its Canadian!

Nimiq1 is currently at about 45W and rattling round the arc at about 5 degrees a day!

Now where the hell is she going in such a hurry???!
The only thing I can think of, it's heading towards 56 East that also has the circular US BSS band plan.
Launch of the successor for 56 East, Express AT1, is delayed more and more, probably to next year.
DirecTV 1R already was sent there a few months ago, but its inclination now of 0.7 degrees should already become irritating.
Nimiq 1 now has 0.2 degrees, so could be good enough to fill the gap until launch of AT1.

They get big points for hitting 16e and the jackpot for taking out 16e and 28e.

With 3 birds at 16E & 5 at 28E that would be one hell of a cannon! :D

As long as this debate doesn't become as lengthy, off-topic and potentially controversial as the last time, hopefully there won't be any need to remove any more ......................... We are an International Forum and there are many valid viewpoints :-righton

Nimiq 1 has slowed right down - shes near 44E atm

Nimiq 1 has stopped at 44.5° East so my guess for 56° East was wrong!.
It (she?) has the US BSS transponder layout, 12200...12700 MHz circular pol.
Here, no suspicious peaks were found yet.

44.5E? Why the hell has she slotted there? Yankee military comms into one of the war zones is still my best guess.

A first transponder has been switched on, 12253 (L or R), but it's far too weak to lock, an occasional reading up to 0.5 dB is all I get.

Eastern half of Europe now has strong reception of 3 transponders with test cards on:
12224 R 17500 3/4
12253 R 17500 3/4
12282 R 17500 3/4
Looks more like Russian broadcasting starting up here!

Hm, can anyone get this in UK? I suppose you need a circular Ku band LNB - perhaps the usual C band plate will be enough?
